While Ross Atkins continues to keep his offseason plans minimal to the public, it’s time they assembled a roster capable of a rerun and more. The league Insiders already predict Toronto to be the top destination for free agents– they have got an efficient lineup, a manager who believes, and a sufficient enough payroll. But how can they build on it?

MLB insider Bob Nightengale says that there is a world where both Kyle Tucker and Bo Bichette, the two top free agents this offseason, sign with the Blue Jays. When X page Blue Jays Today asked how, he explained: “Because I think Bichette will ask for an opt-out in his deal.”
Atkins has already made it known: “(Bichette’s) been important. We will be in his market.” Rightfully so. The shortstop put up a .311 average with 18 HRs and an .840 OPS this past season, while hitting .346, alongside .923 OPS and six RBIs in the World Series. In accordance, CBS Sports’ RJ Anderson predicts Bichette’s market value to be $189 million for seven years.

But there’s a chance the shortstop might request an opt-out to have the benefits of a short-term contract, which allows him to test the waters in the next few years for a higher paycheck if he continues to get better, but right alongside the security of a long-term deal if things go the other way.
If that transpires, it is possible that the total salary of the contract might just be a little lower than anticipated. Meaning, the Blue Jays might also have some room to sign Kyle Tucker, and not only because Atkins has a history of pitching in for big-name offseason moves.
Just texted @BNightengale asking if there was a world where the #bluejays could get Kyle Tucker AND Bichette locked down.
He replied: “I think there is a world with both, particularly because I think Bichette will ask for an opt-out in his deal”

Tucker, a 4x All-Star, would bring a much-needed left-handed bat to the lineup. Considering the Jays’ best lefty OPS from a regular this year was Addison Barger at .755, he would offer Vladimir Guerrero Jr. just the complement he needs.
Imagine a lineup featuring Bichette, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Alejandro Kirk, and Tucker all together… That’s a serious amount of firepower for a team that has built a reputation on offense.

Having failed to lock in the likes of Shohei Ohtani, Juan Soto, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the past years, this might be the offseason Atkins could go all in. They have got the taste of the October glory, and the payroll doesn’t seem to be an issue. Last season the Blue Jays spent the fifth-highest, and this season’s showing could only make it better.
According to reports, the Blue Jays have incurred about a hundred million in incremental revenue after a successful playoff run. They had a sellout of 44,000-plus ten times this season, while 85,000 of them pulled up to catch the World Series on the Rogers Centre jumbotron when the Dodgers were hosting Game 3-5.
Merch sales, sponsorship revenue, viewership– they have only seen an upward trajectory. With that momentum, it would make sense for Toronto to pull a move or two to shock the league.

The Jays are equally active on the other end of the ball
While the inclusion of Bichette and Tucker would fortify their offense, the Blue Jays are not stopping there. They are equally active in arming up their pitching side, also.
According to Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith, the Blue Jays are expected to be in the mix for some big-name free agents this offseason. That includes top-tier starting pitchers like Dylan Cease.

Well, Cease’s numbers tell an interesting story. He might not be attractive on ERA grounds. But he ranked in the 95th percentile for whiff rate and 89th percentile for strikeout rate in 2025! That kind of stuff could easily elevate Toronto’s rotation and give them a legitimate shot at returning to the World Series.

If you know, the Jays’ projected rotation features Shane Bieber, Kevin Gausman, Jose Berrios, rookie Trey Yesavage, and Eric Lauer. But in the intense AL East, that group still comes with question marks. Why? Because Gausman is turning 35, Bieber is entering his first full season after Tommy John surgery, Berrios ended last season on the IL with elbow inflammation, Yesavage just hit a career-high 139.2 innings, and Lauer only recently had his first healthy season since 2022.
So, with all that uncertainty, it’s clear the Blue Jays could use another impact arm. And Cease might be that guy. As rumors continue to swirl, one thing’s for sure… Expect some big moves from Toronto this offseason.
