While Major League Baseball is known for fulfilling the dreams of countless amazing athletes, it can also be harsh at times. For the New York Yankees’ rookie Anthony Volpe, right now is one of those strenuous times. The 22-year-old shortstop has been the talk of the town ever since he showed his iconic plays in spring training. Notably, Volpe created sky-high expectations for himself. But so far, he hasn’t been able to live up to them.

The slugger knows the same and has also owned up to his recent performance. Volpe’s struggle isn’t hidden by anyone. But since it’s the middle of the season, and he’s still floundering, many are questioning his ability to play. During this time, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone has come up with an update siding with the shortstop. However, it has put the Yankees fanbase in a tough position.

And as soon as this update went ahead on Twitter, baseball fans started fuming over the Yankees’ subpar play over a couple of years and this season as well.

Following are some of the fans’ reactions toward Boone’s update by Talkin Yanks:

Derek Jeter had a tough time as well!

How has Volpe played until now?

At his 122 at-bats, Volpe has until now hit 3 home runs with 9 RBI, 0.205 average, and 0.307 OBP. These statistics are indeed low, but every athlete goes through rough patches in their career. And Volpe is going through that time but is still confident enough that he will come up from this.

Meanwhile, the Yankees fanbase also thinks that if he’s the next Derek Jeter, then DJ also went through this slow phase in his first couple of years in the league. Hence, they think that he surely will overcome this rough patch, and rise up as one of the best.
