In her own words, “The Roof” singer, called Jeter, a catalyst. Even for a while, just being with the Yankee was very special for Mariah. And that is why she wrote her two songs, “My All” and “The Roof” about Derek Jeter.

In her memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, she revealed that none other than the boxing superstar, Floyd Mayweather’s favorite song, is one of the songs she wrote for her ex-boyfriend, Jeter.
“And “My All” was a hit, a platinum hit. Later, Jermaine (Dupri), The-Dream, and Floyd “Money” Mayweather, three solid dudes, told me “My All” is their favorite song of mine,” Carey wrote.
When Mariah Carey finally admitted her two songs were about Jeter
Mariah Carey kept denying it for years that her two songs, “The Roof,” and “My All,” did not have anything to do with Jeter. But in 2020, she admitted the same.

“I can never forget that moment,” Carey said. “I mean, it’s not like it was some intensely deep, intellectually stimulating — again, it was a great moment. It happened in a divine way because it helped me get past living there, in Sing Sing, under those rules and regulations.”

She also talked about how she felt like a prisoner while living with her ex-husband, Tommy Mottola. One can relate to her feelings toward Jeter in the “My All” song when Carey sings, “I’d risk my life to feel your body next to mine.”
