Seattle Mariners star rookie Julio Rodriguez is on the verge of finalizing a record contract extension with the American League franchise. Notably, Rodriguez is having his breakthrough season in 2022.
While there are at least 40 games to play this season, the Mariners rookie already has 20 home runs to his name. He has already become the first rookie in the Mariners’ history to record 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases. And if things do not go south, he will end up breaking a few more records by the end of the ongoing MLB season.

Given he is only 21-year-old, no team would miss a generational talent like Julio Rodriguez. And after Rodriguez signs the extension, the Mariners will have a serial hitter by their side for the next 14 years.

Per renowned MLB journalist Jeff Passan, Julio Rodriguez and the Mariners are finalizing a 14-year contract for a whopping $210 million. And if Rodriguez continues to shine for the Mariners, this deal can go over $400 million.

“The structure of Julio Rodriguez’s massive extension is very complicated, but the topline details, sources tell ESPN: $210 million guaranteed over 14 years with the ability to grow to well over $400M. Includes player and team options,” tweeted Passan.

Earlier this week, when Rodriguez hammered his 20th home run against the Nationals; he joined an elite list of American League players. To date, only Mike Trout, Andrew Benintendi, and Randy Arozarena have hit 20 home runs in their rookie season. The Mariners slugger is fourth on the list to do so.

Rodriguez’s rookie season could have been more memorable had he won the Home Run Derby against Juan Soto. Notably, he finished runner-up in the competition.
The Mariners rookie is also the top candidate to win the American League Rookie of the Year Award this season.
