The Braves’ season isn’t officially over yet, but it’s safe to call it a letdown.

Notably, after making the playoffs for the seventh straight year last season, expectations were high with key players finally getting healthy. Instead, injuries have piled up, and the team has fallen 18 games back in the NL East with only a few weeks left. Hence, looking ahead, it feels like the Braves will be hitting the reset button next year. And that could include a change in the manager’s seat.

According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, Brian Snitker may be retiring after the season. But with the Braves dropping their first three games of the current Phillies series, that decision might come sooner than expected.

The Braves went into Saturday sitting at 61–74, well out of the playoff picture. But Thursday’s brutal 19-4 loss felt like a breaking point, and it led to change.

After that game, manager Brian Snitker announced that Cal Quantrill would be shifting to the bullpen as a long reliever. But after today’s 3-2 loss, the conversation has quickly shifted away from the players and onto Snitker himself!

As it turns out, MLB Insiders from Jon Heyman to Bob Nightengale all agree the job is Weiss’s to lose,Yahoo Sports quoted FanSided’s Mark Powell. “Very rarely are managers gifted the opportunity to pass the baton, but in this case, Snitker has a chance to leave the Braves in some very good hands.”

So, while it was pre-determined that Snitker, being the oldest manager in the NL, would retire after this season, the calls just got amplified. And with fans growing louder in their calls to fire Snitker, the Braves might not have to look far for his replacement.

The team already seems to have someone in mind from inside the clubhouse: Walt Weiss. He’s been Snitker’s right-hand man for a while, and if anyone knows this roster inside and out, it’s him.

Well, Weiss doesn’t have the strongest track record as a manager. His four years with the Rockies ended with a 283-365 record and a .437 winning percentage, but he’s well-respected by the players. That familiarity could make the transition smoother in the Braves. At least that’s what the fans want for now.

Braves manager gets called out amid an underwhelming season

Fire Snit,” one fan demanded over X. “Can we fire Snit yet? Like bro, get him out of here,” another added. Thus signifying the growing calls to fire the Braves manager. Well, at the heart of the calls for change are some questionable decisions by Snitker. For example, with key starters like Chris Sale, Spencer Strider, and Reynaldo Lopez sidelined by injuries, he turned to arms cut loose by other teams. That’s Cal Quantrill.

But the gamble didn’t pay off. In Thursday’s ugly 19–4 loss to the Phillies, Quantrill got the start and gave up four of Philly’s seven home runs, tying a franchise record for the most homers allowed in a single game. A blunder too rough for the fans to accept. “Fire Snitker,” another fan joined the chorus.

And the blunder continued in today’s game also. Reportedly, in the 10th inning, the Braves turned to Hunter Stratton out of the bullpen. And things got messy right away. He hit Nick Castellanos to put him on first, then managed to strike out Harrison Bader. But a blown-up single loaded the bases with just one out, ending his night.

At last, Turner delivered for the Phillies, knocking a ground-ball single that brought in the tying and winning runs. Interestingly, the hit from Turner had xBAs over .400, meaning if just one of them had turned into an out, Atlanta would’ve walked away with the win.

Instead, it was another loss that perfectly sums up the 2025 Braves! “Great job, Snit! #firesnit great bullpen management!” one user reacted. “Another Snitker special,” added another.

Hence, fans already gave up on the Braves this season. And eyeing the next year, their calls to fire Snitker are just getting louder.
