The Los Angeles Dodgers’ gala gave the fans a lot of talking points. However, quite unsurprisingly the biggest attention went to Shohei Ohtani and his wife Mamiko Tanaka. Ever since his marriage, the fans have always looked forward to seeing a glimpse of the couple. However, owing to the superstar’s private personality, their appearances have been far and few. As a result, when the two appeared donning all black, it instantly caught everyone’s attention.

But when the hoopla lessened, fans noted something peculiar or rather unfitting. It was Shohei Ohtani’s suit, which wasn’t what anyone expected him to wear. Though the fans couldn’t stop wowing at the couple’s interactions with each other, Ohtani’s suit got less-than-ideal comments from the fans.

The two-way phenom’s black suit was uncharacteristically loosely fitted. While one can understand the idea behind the fitting, it still looks a little out of place. On one hand, Ohtani’s body shape is quite different from normal athletes. With wide squad shoulders and a good height, the 2x MVP has a physique that can make shoulder pads look weird.

But then, it seemed like the suit just wasn’t his fit. It looked bigger and visibly baggy from all angles. That’s something that made even the fans question his designer. It stood out more because Mamiko Tanaka got an almost unanimously positive response for her black dress. That was perhaps one of the reasons why fans began filling X with their opinions on the superstar’s outfits.

With comments ranging from trolling to genuine amazement, at least for a day or two, it was Shohei Ohtani’s choice of fashion that dominated social media. Albeit, it did so in a negative fashion.

“Brother needs a stylist” – Fans review Shohei Ohtani’s fashion statement

Almost immediately after the videos of Shohei Ohtani began surfacing on the internet, the fans started to voice their opinion. One fan had a rather extreme reaction to it, he wrote, “Bro needs a tailor…hate this guy with a passion”. A bad fit doesn’t warrant that big of a reaction, right? Maybe it doesn’t but fans were nonetheless upset with Ohtani’s dressing sense.

“Why is he wearing a leftover suit from Tony Soprano,” another fan commented. That’s a nice reference, though unlike Tony – Shohei Ohtani has all the makings of a Varsity athlete. “This brother needs a stylist,” was a comment that echoed through X. It seems in his quest to be the greatest baseball player, Ohtani didn’t give much attention to fashion lessons.

“My man has too much money to be wearing his Dads church blazer,” a fan said. Wouldn’t it be hilarious if a multi-millionaire Ohtani did something like this? And finally, a fan questioned the designer, “Whoever tailored this suit needs to be arrested.” A little overreaction but it shows how much love the fans bestow upon Shohei Ohtani.

So looks like ‘Shotime’s’ suit-time wasn’t as electrifying as his on-field performances. Still, there’s a long road ahead and maybe with time, we’ll see Ohtani rivaling James Bond in swagger and suits.
