The Yankees just dropped another series against the division rival Red Sox in a 1-12 loss. They entered the series with 5 consecutive wins at Tampa and St. Louis and second position in the division. Now they are just 7 games behind the table toppers, Blue Jays, slipping to third place in the division race and trailing 6.5 games behind Toronto. And the very latest game against the Sox was almost a one-sided affair.
Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet dominated the whole game with 11 strikeouts and gave up just one run. The only run from the Yankees was Giancarlo Stanton’s 445th career homer. Trevor Story remained the Yankee killer once again with a double and a homer.
With this loss Yankees’ record against the Sox became 1-8 this season.

And when a reporter asked if the team was “running out of time” to get on track against teams above .500, Aaron Boone replied, “No, we’re not running out of time, but if we don’t do better, then it’s going to fizzle out and we’re not going to get to where we want to be.”

The connection between the manager’s words and the team’s performance has never been that wide. And it’s easy to say the Bronx is burning.
Fans put a clock on Boone’s denial
The skipper might not think the time is running out, but the fans can hear it loud and clear. “Yes you are running out of time. It’s already fizzling out. Only 20% of the season left.” It’s simple math. The Yankees have only 34 games left to play. They sit 6.5 games behind the Blue Jays in the division. It is a huge gap to close in just one month.
What’s your perspective on:
Is Aaron Boone's optimism misplaced, or can the Yankees still turn this season around?
Have an interesting take?
One user perfectly satirized the skipper’s communication style. “We’re not running out of time but we are running out of time”. Boone described a mental mistake by Anthony Volpe as “obviously not the right play, but a little bit of a heady play, too,” just a day earlier.

Other fans are concerned about the team’s sloppy performance. “There was a college football game today and he dosent think we’re running out of time.” Even the only run scorer of the game, Giancarlo Stanton, called their recent sloppy performance “unacceptable.”
One fan had a humorous take on the manager’s role. He wrote, “One thing you gotta respect about him he does his PR all by himself.” While another summed it all saying, “I agree with most of what people are saying here about Boone’s answers… how bad are the Yankees playing against good teams. Also, Judge isn’t leading with his play.” Well, it is what it is with the Yankees.
