Aside from inspiration, there are one or more mentors present who help a person grow in life. Fortunately for Alex Rodriguez, one of the most successful investors in the World, Warren Buffett became his mentor. Aside from business, the two had some common interests as well. For those unversed, Buffet had guided A-Rod when he was about to sign the biggest contract in the history of Major League Baseball at that time.

After knowing Buffet for twenty years plus now, he is not only a mentor but a friend to Alex Rodriguez. Later, he went on to talk about Buffet’s teaching in business in terms of baseball. “Warren Buffett talks about investing by not stretching the strike zone, staying in your circle of competence, and then when you get a pitch, make sure it’s a fat pitch, and make sure you go for a home run, not just the single,A-Rod said on the Money Maze Podcast

Buffet did that and expanded his empire to a net worth of mammoth $110 billion. His teachings certainly helped Rodriguez, as he managed to push his net worth to $350 million. Which makes the former baseball player the richest retired ballplayer of all time.

A cold call got Rodriguez a mentor and a friend for life!

To finalize the biggest MLB contract in history at the time, the Texas Rangers needed someone to insure the most expensive part of his contract. One of the biggest investors, the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, stepped up.
