Sure, baseball may not be as popular as in the mid-20th century. The sport has faced criticism for being slow-paced, and its younger fanbase has shrunk in some areas. However, baseball still has a strong following, especially in certain regions. And some of its star players (like Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Judge, and Mookie Betts) are drawing worldwide attention.

MLB analysts dislike Cam Newton’s comments

Foul Territory analysts recently talked about Newton’s comment in their podcast. Of course, they did not like it. One of the analysts said, “Cam, stay in your lane.” Even comments from other baseball players were broadcast and read out loud in the Foul Territory video. MLB star Andrew McCutchen also got involved. He tweeted “He talks about baseball like a person who has never been around baseball talks about baseball.”  Further talking about it on the podcast, McCutchen said that the comment from Newton wasn’t a smart one.

Cam Newton’s pivot to media after his NFL career has certainly been interesting. He’s found his voice on ESPN’s First Take and through his own podcast, 4th & 1. His comments about the MLB‘s decline and the rise of the WNBA are an example of the type of attention-grabbing opinions he’s known for in the media world. According to the former NFL star, “Baseball isn’t being played by Americans anymore… It’s like, who’s really paying attention to baseball, especially paying attention to baseball in the regular season?”

Look at you! Aren’t you a fan? This proves that baseball has a sizable, devoted fan base and is still very popular globally. The WNBA is also expanding due to its emerging stars and greater awareness, but it might be a push to overtake MLB in the next 20 years.
