The Yankees’ October dreams have crumbled once again, eliminated by the Blue Jays in Game 4 of the divisional series. However, beyond the disappointment, social media trolling has taken over the Bronx. So, who’s the target this time? The rookie arm, Cam Schlittler, and interestingly, the Yanks aren’t trolling him. The Boston-bred who mocked Red Sox fans after knocking them out in the Wild Card Series. Now faces a vengeful social media, which has thrown him under the bus.

The irony? Schlittler brought this on himself. When the Yankees beat the Red Sox, he personally fueled the conflict. When a fan questioned his ties to Boston, he shot back, “Went to school in Bos for 3 years, I live in Southie during off season, start preparing for the bruins szn homie.” The Bruins are the ice hockey team based in Boston. A sarcastic jab that’s now causing chaos online.
When the Blue Jays eliminated the Yankees, Cam Schlittler suddenly became the target. Dave Portnoy, the notorious Yankees-hating Barstool Sports founder, led the charge with a sarcastic salute on X. He wrote, “Congrats to the @Yankees. Another successful season for the Bombers! Nobody can ever take away that wildcard series celebration!” The post opened the floodgates for Boston fans to unleash their pent-up frustration.

Everyone’s attention moved to Schlittler all of a sudden. The rookie had a great season, posting a 2.96 ERA in 14 starts and striking out 84 batters over 73 innings. In the Wild Card Series, he went off, throwing eight shutout innings, striking out 12 batters, and not walking any. This helped New York win the games.

Against Toronto, Schlittler showed up again. In Game 4, he pitched 6 1/3 innings, giving up four runs (two earned) and striking out two batters. He was the only starter to have a good outing in the series. However, the bullpen couldn’t hold on, and the Yankees lost in the playoffs in October.
Schlittler’s message to his family before Game 3 of the Wild Card only fuels the narrative.
He texted, “I said, like, ‘Hey, this is postseason baseball. It doesn’t matter that we’re from Boston. They’re going to get under your skin. Just don’t answer. Stay away from it. Please don’t give them an edge. We’ll handle it after the game, whatever. And I’ll kick their a__. ”
That determination helped him get New York past Boston, but now things have changed, and Red Sox fans aren’t hiding away.
Red Sox faithful are showing that what goes around comes around in baseball
One fan immediately seized on Schlittler’s earlier Bruins reference, asking, “Hey Jeff, can you ask Cam Schlittler if he’s gonna be back in Southie in time to watch the Bruins tomorrow?” The comment perfectly mirrors Schlittler’s own words back at him, suggesting his hockey-watching plans would arrive much sooner than expected.
Another fan chimed in with the same sentiment. “Going to the Bruins game Saturday, maybe I’ll see Cam Schlittler.” The Bruins have already started their season. Tonight, they play the Chicago Blackhawks at TD Garden for their first home game. Their next game is on Saturday, October 11, when they play the Buffalo Sabres in Boston.
One fan elevated Portnoy’s post to legendary status. The comment read, “Dave – this may be one of your best posts ever. Not this week. Not this month. Not this year. Ever Dave. Ever. Made my week.” The enthusiasm reveals how much Boston fans had been waiting for this moment. And when they got the chance, well, we know they didn’t stop.
Then came the most comprehensive takedown. “Great job, Cam Schlittler. All your trash talk to Boston fans got you was a b—-whooping by a team your fans swore all season you were better than, wasting the best postseason of your mutant superstar’s career. I’m sure you’re fine though, after all, the Bruins are 1-0.” This fan connected every painful thread—the trash talk backfiring, the Blue Jays rivalry, and likely Aaron Judge’s exceptional postseason going unrewarded. The reference to the Bruins is particularly sharp, circling back to Schlittler’s comments and suggesting he’ll have plenty of time to watch now that his October has ended early.

This fan highlighted how the Yankees have now joined the Red Sox in elimination. “Hopefully the Sox saved us some chairs by the pool in Cancun!” Both teams’ seasons are now over, and players are heading into their offseason break after 162+ games. Cancun is a famous vacation spot in Mexico.
The internet never forgets, and neither do Red Sox fans. Cam Schlittler learned the hard way that trash-talking in October only works if you follow through.
