“M-V-P!” the fans chanted after witnessing another awesome “Soto Show.” Despite the New York Yankees’ initial struggle against the Tampa Bay Rays, the team ended up winning 5-3 due to the heroics of their Dominican Superstar. The three-run homer by Juan Soto sent the Yankee Stadium into a frenzy, he was the hero of the hour. However, the Childish Bambino once again showed his “selfless” side during his postgame interview.

Despite being one of the Yankees’ premier performers till now, Soto seldom talks about himself. His interviews are filled with praises for the Yankees squad. Soto just wants to win and support his teammates in any way possible. It was visible again during the interview with YES Network where Soto was quite happy with the way the game went.

Calling getting a homer a “great feeling” Soto shared that he was happier with the team’s win. When the interviewer asked how he felt about his great start with the Yankees, the Dominican slugger said, “I can’t be selfish. I’m more than happy and more excited to see the team winning games. That’s all that matters for me right now. Just keep winning games. The start we have being in first place, that’s all that matters.”

This is something that Soto has consistently said throughout his brief Yankees career. Despite this being his walk year the Pinstripes’ Dominican face has remained far more happy with being useful to the team in any way possible. A few days ago, Soto was candid in the fact that his primary job was to get on base and support Aaron Judge.

However, Soto’s selflessness is making fans remember a Yankees legend. Ironically that legend is known for being selfless but his final season saw some of that sheen wiped off him.

Juan Soto’s selflessness as compared to Derek Jeter’s alleged “selfishness”

Derek Jeter’s selfless image got a slight hit in 2014. The New York Yankees superstar was no longer in his peak, in fact, at 40 there was a visible decline in Jeter. However, he remained a shortstop and continued to stay near the top of the lineup. With Jeter’s performances floundering fans wondered just why wouldn’t Jeter give up at least one of the roles. However, the question remained unanswered and the Yankees missed the playoffs in Jeter’s final year as a player.

While these are two different situations, the selflessness of Soto seems quite refreshing. The fact that he accepts whatever role the team is giving him is great for the Yankees. This quality of his has become one of the primary reasons for the fans to demand a long-term deal with Soto. Would that be possible? Perhaps it could be. But it certainly won’t be an easy task for the Bronx Bombers.
