On the same day last month when the Chicago Cubs paid tribute to the late Charlie Kirk with flags at half-staff and a moment of reflection, his wife, Erika, stressed his love for the team. “He loved the Chicago Cubs,” she said back then, during her first public appearance after Charlie Kirk’s assassination. Erika has since adopted the same passion and even celebrated the Cubs’ National League Wild Card series win on Friday.

Cheered on by nearly 41,000 northsiders, the Chicago Cubs relied on their solid defense to advance in the postseason for the first time since 2017. Thanks in part to Michael Busch’s solo homer, Jameson Taillon’s elite pitching, where he got 12 outs without letting up a run, and relievers who closed the game to secure the 3-1 win over the San Diego Padres at Wrigley Field.

Among many netizens celebrating the Cubs’ victory, Charlie Kirk’s wife was one of them. “Hey Chicago, what do you say?” She noted on X, gaining the attention of over 2 million people at the time of writing.

Former professional football wide receiver Taylor Moe also chimed in to support the Cubs to honor Charlie Kirk. “As a Cardinals fan, I don’t think there would be anything that could get me to cheer for the Cubs, but this year I am. For Charlie.”

Lately, Erika has taken up cheering for all the teams her husband once supported. Last week, she publicly rooted for the Oregon Ducks, a team that meant a lot to Charlie Kirk. “LET’S GO DUCKS!!! 🦆” she had quipped.

It was only a month before his passing when Charlie Kirk attended a Cubs game. After the matchup, he even posed for a picture with Matt Shaw and Michael Busch. Shaw, in particular, had grown close to Charlie Kirk since meeting him in the last off-season. Both lived in the same building in Arizona during the offseason, and in fact, they even used to speak to each other often throughout the 2025 MLB season.

“He texted me after every game, you know, ‘Great win for the Cubbies.’ He was super super supportive of us, and obviously someone who’s really faithful, so we connected on that front as well,” Shaw revealed to NBC News.

Chicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner summed up the mood of the clubhouse. “It feels fitting, right? They’ve had an incredible season. Every regular-season [game] we play with them is seemingly higher stakes and intense and close. We’ll see when we get there, but it’s kind of fun not to get on any planes yet in the playoffs. That’s a good thing. They’re a great baseball team. So are we. It’ll be a lot of close games. I’m excited for it.”
