Mets Prospect Group- X account
The Milwaukee Brewers are absolute wizards while scouting, signing, and drafting hitters in the international market. They discovered Jackson Chourio. Catcher Jeferson Quero is another one of their gems. Their farm system is full of promising bats like Jesús Made and Luis Pena. Pitching, however, is a much different story and has been the team’s biggest weakness for years.

The front office is trying hard to change that narrative and even hopes that the 10 new pitchers they signed will be a big part of that change. But the plan just fell short as the most intriguing part of that group changed sides with their rival in a very public way.
Yeuri Ramirez, a 17-year-old kid from the Dominican Republic, signed his contract with the Brewers on January 15, 2025, and was set to play in the 2025 Dominican Summer League. But he never played a single game. The mystery started here. Then, a Prospect-focused social media account, Brewers Farm, finally broke the news on their X account, writing, “For reasons unknown, Ramirez, who we ranked as the #91 prospect in the organization prior to the season, did not appear during the 2025 DSL season and has now signed with the Detroit Tigers.”

But why? Another account, MetsProspectGroup, added the stunning details on their X post that reads, “As originally posted by @thebrewersfarm, Yuery Ramirez is signing with The Tigers after running into some age issues with the Brewers.” The post also noted the financial hit. It added, “His original Bonus was in the $300K range, I’m hearing his new Bonus is $275K.”

It must be mentioned that the key phrase here is “age issues.” This is different from “age fraud.” In baseball, fraud gets you suspended for a year. And this recently happened to Cesar Altagracia, who was 19 but pretended to be 14. Ramirez, however, was not suspended and was immediately free to sign with another team.
This suggests a technical problem. Ramirez’s issue was likely about eligibility. He might have been in the wrong signing class that made his Brewers contract invalid, and the Brewers decided to cut their losses. And the Detroit Tigers, the team that drafted Tarik Skubal in the 9th round of the 2018 MLB Amateur Draft, saw a perfect opportunity and swooped in and grabbed the talented pitcher at a $25,000 discount. But these are all speculations until the team reveals the actual reason.
But who is this 17-year-old Yuery Ramirez from the Dominican Republic?
Ramirez is the most intriguing pitcher among the 10 pitchers the Milwaukee Brewers signed in 2025 free agency to a minor league contract. Scouts loved his projectable 6-foot-2 frame, which will get taller as he ages, depending on his growth. Plus, he is already touching 95 mph on the pitch clock and is a very polished pitcher who can very easily disrupt the hitter’s timing with his quick changes in pitch and velo.

According to one scout, “He toys with hitters and I think that’s very impressive….. To top it off with the physical gifts he has, he has a very quick arm and is already throwing pretty hard for his age. That’s the type of player that can hit that upper bound of pitching, and we’re very excited about that.”
That highlights what the Brewers will miss. They may have won 97 games in 2025 with the best record in baseball, but no one will forget how badly their season ended when the Dodgers swept them in the NLCS. And their biggest weakness- their international pitching pipeline is still empty.
And for the Tigers, getting Ramirez is a savvy move. After finishing their season with an 87-75 record and losing a tough ALDS to the Mariners, which continues their title drought, this gamble on Ramirez can give them a positive start to their next season, where they can play without their ace, Tarik Skubal
