New York is just something else. The city’s culture is rooted in baseball and the team from the Bronx carries it forward every day. Pinstripes and the classic clean-shaven look stand for something historic, even if it’s not agreeable to all. But in recent years, many factors have combined to tarnish its reputation. And just like in 1995, the New York Yankees are looking to Derek Jeter as their savior.

The former ballplayer carried on the Bronx’s legacy on his shoulders for his entire 20-season career. For 11 of them, he was responsible for the rest of the pinstripes as captain and he led them by example. The same qualities of leadership took him to Miami after his retirement as a player, and he led the Marlins for four years. But Yankees fans want him back in New York.

No One Knows The Bronx Better Than Derek Jeter

The Bronx Bombers’ fanbase is as known for its loyalty as it is for its temperament. Unwavering devotion where it’s deserved and tough love, when it’s necessary, is the policy they believe in. Not all baseball fans are comfortable with their passion and yet, it means something to play in New York to achieve victory in pinstripes. No one gets it better than Derek Jeter, who spent the entirety of his career receiving love as well as constant heat from the Bronx.

That’s what comes with playing in New York,” Jeter said in an interview with The Messenger. But while fans want him managing the team, will Jeter ever accept a position with the Yankees again?

Interestingly, many think that the former captain will not accept a position as a replacement for either Aaron Boone or Brian Cashman. Why? Because at one point in time, he was the part owner of an MLB team, so it will technically be a step down for him. But on the other hand, it’s the Yankees. Does one need to say any more?

And it’s not as if Hal Steinbrenner hasn’t asserted again and again that Cashman is in no danger of losing his job. Fans might want this future for the Yankees but there’s no surety it will ever work.

It might or might not change the Yankees’ fortunes but many think it’s certainly worth a try.
