The century-old rivalry between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox is returning to life. Baseball legends Derek Jeter and David Ortiz took it overseas at the London Series this time, igniting passions and stirring memories. What started in 1920 with Red Sox trading Babe Ruth to the Yankees has yet to die. And from the looks of it, it probably never will. A perfect example occurred when Captain Clutch Derek Jeter had just returned from retirement as the game’s analyst for Fox Network.

During Super Bowl Sunday, Jeter’s former teammate Alex Rodriguez announced his comeback in the baseball world earlier this year. He had just joined studio host, Kevin Burkhardt, Red Sox legend David Ortiz, and A-Rod as game analysts. And starting off the London Series in London, England, marked the debut of Jeter’s return to television. However, a consequence of a gift from Ortiz made Jeter upset.

The Yankees v/s Red Sox rivalry is the fiercest in MLB’s history. It cooled down a bit after Curse of Bambino got lifted. But it never entirely went away. Referring to the current situation, maybe it never will. Jeter’s debut in the Box came with a Hall of Famer David Ortiz’s nasty gift, followed by the former’s obvious gesture.

Nestled inside the box, exquisitely wrapped, was a Red Sox jersey adorned with Jeter’s name and number on the back. In a moment of unfiltered excitement, Derek Jeter eagerly opened the box and glanced at its contents, only to discard it instinctively without a second thought. Jeter’s witty remarks added a touch of hilarity to the entire scene.

Considering the history between the Yankees and the Red Sox, neither would wear the other’s jersey in a million years. Seconds after throwing the jersey and the box away, Derek said, “It’s been a great time spending with you guys here. You won’t see me anymore. It’s my last day here.” Fortunately for Jeter’s fanbase, it was a prank by Ortiz, which ended by getting laughs from the entire crew and audience.

Red Sox nation once stood up and commemorated Jeter!

Throughout the two decades that Jeter played as a Yankee, the Red Sox fanbase heckled him brutally at every chance they got. And the case was alike for Yankees fans and Red Sox players. However, when the time came for Jeter to bid farewell, the entire fanbase of the Red Sox stood up at Fenway Park and commemorated Jeter’s legendary career in all.
