Dedicated Artist’s 100-Hour Effort Leaves Pittsburgh Pirates Star Andrew McCutchen Shell-Shocked

Having played in five different teams in his entire career, 5x All-Star Andrew McCutchen has played primarily for the Pittsburgh Pirates. In his first stint with the Pirates, McCutchen became a star for the side in the mid-2010s, winning the National League MVP in 2013. He also became a big hit with the fans. Now back for a second stint, his stronghold with the Pirates’ fans becomes more evident by the decibel levels at PNC Park and also the recent work of a Pittsburgh-based artist. 

A dedicated artist managed to garner Andrew’s attention toward a recent artwork of his, with the piece taking immense work and around 100 hours to make. By the end of it, not only was the athlete impressed, but he also shared the artist’s work with his fans on Twitter. 

How did an artist impress Pirates’ Andrew McCutchen?

For those unversed, Andrew played the first nine years of his baseball career playing for the Pirates. After which, he played for the Giants, Yankees, Phillies, and Brewers. And this year, he started his second stint with the Pirates. To welcome the athlete back to Pittsburgh, an artist drew a pencil portrait of McCutchen. When the artist shared the portrait on Twitter, the result left many stunned, including the athlete.

Andrew shared the real-like portrait on his Twitter handle, with only three letters, “Wow!”  If the portrait is for sale or not is not yet clarified.

How are the fans reacting to the artist’s 100-hour piece of art?

The Pittsburgh-based artist, Alex Nicholson, simply wanted to show support to the athlete by giving a warm yet playful welcome. Needless to say, his welcome was well received by the athlete. Being back with the Pirates must have been special for the athlete himself. It’s because it’s where he started his big-league career. 

Most fans were in awe of the portrait, some showcased support for Andrew, and others recalled their own memorabilia. Here are some of the reactions from fans to Nicholson’s portrait:
