More than the game, the New York Yankees lost control of the narrative. The narrative that they’ve established over time — that they are nearly impossible to beat. And that happened against a team that was off to a horrible 50-game start to the season, in other words, 8-42. In front of an over 47k sellout crowd at Coors Field, the Colorado Rockies handed a brutal 3-2 loss to the Bronx Bombers.
The Yankees, at 30-20, were coming off a four-game winning streak. To top it all off, they have won 11 out of their past 14 games. The Rockies, now 9-42, were coming off with a hope to break their 5-game losing streak; they have lost 17 of their last 19 matchups.
And well, they shifted the odds in their favor in such a way that the entire fan base collectively came together to celebrate the Yankees’ loss to the worst team in recent MLB history.

FINAL: Rockies 3, Yankees 2.
— New York Yankees (@Yankees) May 24, 2025
It’s not like the Yanks never had the lead in the game. Aaron Judge sparked the hope with his 17th home run of the season in the fifth inning. It was his solo shot over the left field. However, their offense was simply flat this time. Throughout the night, except for Judge’s hit and Paul Goldschmidt’s first-inning RBI triple, they managed only five singles.
On the Rockies’ side, in the fourth inning, Wells hit a hard ground ball with a stunning exit velocity of 101 mph. It seemed like the Yankees had a chance when two runners were on with no outs. But then Rockies’ second baseman Amador managed the tough bounce precisely.
The New Yorkers were already mourning the Knicks’ 2-0 playoff series hole when the last pitch was being thrown at Coors Field. Adding to the Yankees’ loss, the Bronxites couldn’t take it anymore. They blew up the internet over the back-to-back losses.
“We caught the ball, we made the plays, and we gave ourselves a couple of opportunities to score some runs. We didn’t get the big hit tonight,” shared manager Aaron Boone after the tough night.

Meme meltdown across social media over Yankees’ 3-2 loss to the Rockies
You all have heard of the win-win scenario. Ever heard of the lose-lose one? Suppose the Yankees won over the Rockies. The headlines would go like ‘It’s okay, they were supposed to. No big deal.’ But now that they’ve lost, it makes the Yanks awful. Lose-lose, right!
It was an unexpected collapse of the winning odds. So, fans had to go dramatic. “Surgery for my legs because I can’t stand this team.” Now, it’s like the Yankees against the whole of Major League Baseball. Being at 30-20 and losing to the 9-42 Rockies, it was downright embarrassing for the entire Yankeeland.
Apparently, the New Yorkers were already recovering from the Knicks’ 0-2 loss to the Pacers in the NBA Eastern Conference Finals. And moments later, they saw the Yankees dropping to 3-2 to the Rockies. “This is what I have to see after watching the Knicks lose!? Already a failed series by not sweeping. Go win the next two.” This situation was somewhat like rubbing salt into an already raw, painful wound. However, the Yankees have two more chances to stack up winning odds in their favor. It was the opener of the Rockies-Yankees series. Let’s see if the Bronx bombers can shake things up.

The Rockies had the worst MLB record in 2024. They were at 61-101; it was plain and simple terrible. And now, they’re no better in 2025 as well. As one put it, “Losing to the 2025 Rockies is worse than losing the World Series, ngl.” This stings, for real. But this comparison? It just reflects how down in the dumps the Rockies are!
It statistically hurts. “11% of the Rockies total wins this season are against the Yankees, LMAOOOOO.” The math here is painful. The Rockies’ 9-42 record made fans do the heartbreaking calculation. Among 30 MLB teams, the Rockies have won against 9 teams only. And that includes the Yankees. It haunts, right? Well, at least we can be hopeful for the Yankees in their second game against the Rockies.
Pure disbelief was a collective sentiment after this loss. “You lost to THIS Rockies team?!” “THIS” Rockies are actually at their worst in the modern era of MLB history. Not just in 2025 or 2024. Even in 2023, the Rockies broke the franchise record of 100 losses in just one season. It was their worst season in history. And 2024 was their second worst; now it gives you an idea of how infuriating this is for the Bleacher Creatures to see the Pinstripes, the GOAT squad, losing there.
