In 2010, Minka Kelly was named ‘Sexiest Woman Alive’ by Esquire Magazine and was honored at a party. And Derek Jeter, her boyfriend at the time, showed up at the party to support her. But according to a person who was at the party, people were more excited to see Jeter than they were about Kelly winning the award. A New York Daily News report said that “people were more into him than they were into her.”

Jeter, apparently, even tried to avoid stealing the spotlight and came through the back door. But it wasn’t enough, as people were genuinely buzzing at the Yankee star’s appearance. And this led to him inadvertently stealing the spotlight from his girlfriend.

Notably, the Yankees star had won his 5th World Series title in 2009 and was at the height of his popularity. And people may not have expected to see him there for the party.

Jeter and Kelly had been together for 2 years at the time and were in a solid place. But less than a year later, the two decided to go separate ways and finally ended their relationship in August 2011.

Several sources reported that Jeter and Kelly broke up because they wanted to focus on their careers at the time. Kelly’s career was taking off and Jeter wanted to focus on the Yankees. This eventually led to them breaking up.
