Anything can happen in MLB narratives and this season, Juan Soto is the biggest carrier of that. Don’t you agree? Just around October 20, he was one of the brightest stars of the New York Yankees because his 3-run homer assisted the team reach the World Series for the first time since 2009. But Juanjo’s jaw-dropping $765 million deal with the crosstown rivals, the New York Mets, altered the dynamics. And while you might expect him to enjoy the holidays lavishly, again comes the unexpected just like him leaving the pinstripes behind for the next season. To be fair, there was more to play than just money!
Yes, Soto indeed declined the Yankees deal for $760 million. But he was not just seeking money but also a suite and extra perks, which Steve Cohen agreed to. Hal Steinbrenner, the managing general partner of the Yanks, said that he never gave those perks to any players, not even Aaron Judge. And that’s it; Soto literally became the rival for fans. However, despite popular belief, Juan Soto’s Christmas celebration proves that he is not all about money.
The superstar outfielder knows how to keep things minimalistic. MLB insider Michael Rodriguez posted a picture of Juan Soto on Instagram celebrating Christmas, where he was seen enjoying a cozy holiday moment with his brother Elian Soto and their father. Elian Soto first posted this with the caption, “Los Tres Mosqueteros (The Three Musketeers).” This peek became more precious because Soto’s personal life is mostly under wraps, tossing out the notion of his sole inclination toward extravaganza.

This, however, isn’t the first time Soto was out and about in Christmas cheer. He made headlines in the Dominican Republic as one of the guests of honor at a Christmas celebration at the National Palace hosted by President Luis Abinader. Accompanied by David Ortiz, Pedro Martinez, and Marcell Ozuna, his smile communicates his humbleness. Still, the backlash did not stop.
And it is not something new! Even Alex Rodriguez faced such behavior when he signed a $252 million contract with the Texas Rangers in 2000. For many critics, “no one deserves the kind of payday” was the narrative. And the cycle continues with Juanjo.
Mets fan’s epic Juan Soto Christmas troll
The festive mood is gleaming with gifts pouring in from near and dear ones. And a Mets fan decided to turn it into an epic trolling opportunity on social media, referring to Juan Soto’s signing. The fan (@wunnaworld) planned to prank his cousin, a Yankee fan, by gifting him a Derek Jeter T-shirt for Christmas. Wow, right? Well, even his cousin was thrilled, but only until he saw the hidden note.

“I’m going to print out the Passan tweet of Soto signing with the Mets so when he unfolds the shirt, the tweet falls out lol,” @wunnaworld announced. A well-executed plan with the desired reaction – a not-so-happy cousin getting reminded of the heartbreak. The cherry on the top was ESPN’s Jeff Passan’s response to the clip. And since then, it’s gone viral.

While this is just one part of the Juan Soto x New York Mets antics, controversy has never stopped swirling. There were talks about how Juan’s parents were treated poorly by the Yankees, which, though he recently debunked, “That’s a lie. My family was treated very well by the organization.” Well, until someone spills the beans, that’s the truth for the world.
