The New York Yankees‘ season in 2023 has not been the one they would’ve expected. Despite turning out as AL East Champions in 2022 and almost making a deep post-season run last season, the Yankees have had a massive drop off. Staring at a losing record to close out the season at the start of September, the Pinstripes have corrected somewhat to keep their 30 year record intact. But their roster will need some crucial changes if they are to follow through, including possibly some advice from former players.

Alex Rodriguez may have retired from the Bronx in 2016 but it seems his advice more relevant than ever now. With a roster failing to put up stats that the franchise demands, A-Rod has been making it well known that the focus of the modern game has been taking away from the fundamentals of the game. While this may not rear its head immediately, there is surely a possibility for correction. Especially when it comes to one of the game’s greats.

Is Alex Rodriguez’s Advice Relevant Anymore?

Alex Rodriguez is an avid sportscaster. Acknowledged as one of the games greats when it comes to home plate, the star undoubtedly had some solid skills while he was in the league. The game may have changed focus in terms of batting approach since his retirement, but it seems that star’s advice remains more relevant than ever before.

Rodriguez was seen making a point that batting average as a statistic still is a very relevant marker for an MLB player. Despite the push on power hitting in recent years, Rodriguez has maintained that the value of a contact hitter cannot be overestimated. While many discounted the star’s opinion it seems this is coming to fruiting with his former franchise.

MLB insider Jon Heyman recently shared a statistic that showed just why the Pinstripes were failing as a batting unit.

Despite boasting great names on their lineup, the Yankees recorded the worst batting average in the league. Only ahead of the Oakland Athletics, the Yankees will be expecting far more from their side if they are to make a serious push. One player however stood out from the rest.

Aaron Judge Stands Tall

The 2022 Homerun King, Aaron Judge has been the Yankees’ standout performer for several years standing now. With the star in hot pursuit of 2021 AL MVP Shohei Ohtani in the homerun tally this season too, many have expected him to be the talisman for the Bronx Bombers. But a single player can only achieve so much from his at-bats.

Judge will be expecting more support from his teammates going into next season if the Yankees are ever to be considered as serious contenders for the pennant and while Judge will feature heavily in those conversations, perhaps his hits will register more RBIs simply if the Yankees batters manage to get on base more.
