Seems like MLB teams are adding a twist to the tale of free-agent players. Even the legendary players found themselves amidst some chaos of trade discussion. Well, Scott Boras, an MLB super agent, spilled some beans on this. One of the agent clients is from the Philadelphia Phillies, Bryce Harper, who signed a contract with the Phillies in 2019. However, the 71YO agent recently revealed the back story.

Notably, Scott Boras is well known for his strategic mind and negotiable skills in the baseball world. The agent helped Harper sign a $330 million contract with the Phillies. It was considered the biggest deal at that time. However, per Boras himself, before landing this mega deal for Harper, the Phillies star and super agent had to face multiple rejections.

How Bryce Harper did face rejection?

Scott Boras, in a recent podcast, addressed the back story when Bryce Harper was a free agent in 2019. Harper faced his share of rejections despite playing good seasons. Boras revealed, “I had four teams telling me that Bryce Harper is somebody they only wanted to invest in for 3 or 4 years and he was 26 years old”. Four MLB teams wanted Harper, but not for the long-term contract. However, they did not have the answer back then. Boras said, “Please give me the data that would substantially support why you would say that”. Due to Harper’s injuries and his poor performance, teams have not considered him for a long-term contract.

However, Harper was in his best form in prior seasons and had an MVP award under his name, too. “In the prior season that he had an MVP season he didn’t perform as well in the prior season as he did his MVP”, Boras shared about what teams were thinking.

But a good thing happened! Harper signed a long-term contract with the Phillies and after that, it’s just good times for the Reds.

A chance encounter with Alex Rodriguez’s exceptional commentary while shuffling through the FOX Network was my first introduction to baseball. Driven by the words of wisdom from one of the greatest MLB coaches, Dusty Baker, “I'm not a guy that sits around and does nothing,” I love the art of storytelling. And what is baseball if not new stories being created on the diamond every day? From the thrilling conclusion that a World Series brings to the season, I love writing about the winningest teams in baseball. With a knack for crafting compelling content, I cover electrifying on-court action like the Arizona Diamondbacks advancing to the Fall Classic, or the Texas Rangers making history. When not putting pen to paper, you'll likely find me immersed in the pages of a book or dancing my heart out.
