The New York Yankees had a fantastic 2022 regular season, finishing with 99 wins atop the AL East. But the team faltered in the playoffs and crashed out in the ALCS due to poor performance and injuries. Furthermore, the Yankees had some key weaknesses in their lineup that were made apparent. This off-season, the Yankees have re-signed Aaron Judge and brought in Carlos Rodon to be their ace. Other than that, there have been almost no additions. But fans have a reason to celebrate as a key player for the team looks set to be ready by Opening Day.

DJ LeMahieu looks set to start the season for the New York Yankees

In 2022, DJ LeMahieu was key for the New York Yankees, providing them with good leadoff hitting and excellent defense. LeMahieu was excellent on defense the entire season, winning a Gold Glove in the process. But a toe injury impacted his batting numbers significantly and kept him out of the postseason entirely. But according to the latest reports, the Yankee’s star infielder will probably heal in time to start the season. 

The Yankee’s hitting coach Dillon Lawson recently spoke to the New York Post and stated that LeMaheiu will most likely start on Opening Day. According to New York Post’s Dan Martin, Lawson said “He looks healthy, whether it’s in the weight room or on defense or hitting. He’s pushing it with everything, and he’s able to do it. If you didn’t know how last year ended, you wouldn’t think anything of it, but we all saw that.”

The star infielder will provide a much-needed boost of confidence in Yankees fans. Furthermore, he will be a huge part of their season. The Yankees will need every player to perform well so that Aaron Judge’s captaincy can begin on a high note.

This is a huge move for the franchise as they attempt to win their first World Series title since 2009. Judge has embraced the role and has looked ready for years.
