However, in the thick of upcoming action, there’s a unique divide among American fans.

Apparently, the Dodgers are the team that everyone loves to hate in Major League Baseball. The Dodgers’ spending has been viewed as unfair by some.

They have more star players than any other club. When Talkin’ Baseball held a poll, “Who are you rooting for to win the World Series?”, 64% of netizens sided for the Blue Jays at the time of writing and the remaining 36% for the Dodgers.

It’s almost like the American fans hate the Dodgers enough that they would rather support a Canadian team.

So, for them, is baseball worse off because the Dodgers have more star players than anyone else? No, that’s not the case.

Theoretically, any team could match its payroll if it chose to. However, the Dodgers’ ability to acquire top talent through trades and free agency has led some fans to view them as “buying” championships.

That narrative was set largely because they’re a high-profile team in a high-profile city. And of course, they’ve absurdly stacked their roster with star-studded names that many are now “envious,” as a fan put it on X amidst the polling.

The Blue Jays, on the other hand, couldn’t land on a generational talent like Shohei Ohtani. But Toronto has Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and George Springer, whose big hit decided Game 7 of the ALCS. The Jays stood out against the Mariners and are finally heading to the World Series for the first time in decades. But for now, fans are split on the idea of who should ultimately take the World Series crown this time.

Most would rather see another team win than the Dodgers. “who do we even root for? Dodgers? ugh 😂” With one of the highest payrolls in baseball, the perception that their success is being purchased rather than built is hard to shake now. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts himself acknowledged that the team does invest heavily in their roster.

At the same time, Roberts challenged the argument that spending alone guarantees a championship. “There’s no shortcut to building a winning culture.” He said.

Another fan even had a harsher take: “Neither. Most arrogant team in baseball history vs. a team that literally cheated the system to sign players.” The fan here is calling out the Dodgers for exploiting contract deferrals to bypass spending limits. On the other hand, he’s neither sliding for the Blue Jays, as he sees them as an “arrogant” team. From making it to the ALCS and now to the World Series after a long drought was something the Blue Jays had worked for, so it’s not entirely fair to call them arrogant.

Meanwhile, some fans took a hilarious jab at the Yankees. “Yankee fans debating which team that eliminated them to cheer for now, Dodgers or Blue Jays? 😂” The Yankees were eliminated 3-1 by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2025 AL Division Series. And last year it was the Dodgers who eliminated them in the World Series. Now the debate is, who would the Yankees support? The Blue Jays or the Los Angeles Dodgers?

Then, another Yankees fan, who happens to be a baseball analyst, noted, “the Dodgers and Blue Jays are in the World Series … so this is hell.”

But there were some loyal Dodgers fans, too. “The Dodgers, of course. They will be back-to-back World Series Champions. #LetsGoDodgers” The Dodgers are trying to become the first team to go back-to-back since the 1998-2000 Yankees. Most importantly, the team that wins Game 1 in the World Series usually has a big advantage. So we can say how the Rogers Centre will be buzzing when we see both teams clash!
