The ongoing Dodgers-Giants series is becoming a nightmare for the Dodgers’ veteran slugger, and surely for all the odd reasons. Just this Friday, Max Muncy got an HBP on his right hand when Joey Lucchesi’s 92.2 mph sinker nailed him on the right forearm. He was seen grabbing it while making his way slowly to first. While Muncy stayed in the game initially, he eventually walked off, making this the Dodgers’ fifth walk-off loss in their last 15 road games.

But things didn’t stop here; rather, it went a bit further on Saturday. The second game witnessed a scary scene when Muncy got nailed behind the back of his head by Matt Gage’s fastball. Reportedly, Muncy took a pitch off the helmet and went down right away, with the Giants catcher and the home plate umpire rushing to check on him. The Dodgers’ medical staff quickly followed. And after a few tense moments, he was able to get back on his feet to a round of applause from the crowd.

The hit was not an intentional hit, as Gage looked pretty shaken up himself after the ball hit Muncy. But for the Dodgers, it’s a worrying sight with their veteran slugger banged up so close to the postseason. “Scary moment tonight as Max Muncy took a fastball to the back of the head. Thankfully, he got up and stayed in the game. Big sigh of relief!” Dodgersnation reported.

As per the latest update, Muncy has not sustained any serious injury and won’t miss any upcoming games. “As of right now, we’re okay,” Muncy reacted after the Dodgers equaled the series in the second game against the Giants. Now, while Muncy has shown commendable sportsmanship, taking back-to-back hits in consecutive games and still completing, the Dodgers fans are not very pleased about how things are going here. The repetitive HPB incidents with Muncy have left the Dodgers them wondering if that’s entirely intentional.

Dodgers fans are calling out the Giants

Fans were habituated to seeing HBPs and physical altercations in the Dodgers-Padres series, but this time, the Giants have joined the fold. “Stop hitting Max Muncy,” one fan shared. “Stop hurting Max Muncy, you b—-,” added another. Muncy just can’t catch a break this year. First suffering through injuries and now this.

First, he takes a shot to the wrist, then the very next day, he gets hit in the head. And that’s only the latest in a string of setbacks. Let’s get back another four days earlier, and Muncy barely made it back from an oblique strain. Before that, he was sidelined for a month after bruising his knee in a collision against the White Sox.

So, at this point, it feels like he’s being pushed to his absolute limit, and fans are begging the Giants to stop targeting him. And wonder why Muncy always seems to be the one taking the hits. One fan said, “What is going on?? What did Max Muncy do to get hit all the time??

With Muncy taking hits, can the Dodgers still count on him for the postseason?

Dodgers fans are also not letting the Giants’ pitchers go unpunished from the scene. “Stop hitting Max Muncy. Twice in 2 games. We need stronger penalties for hitting batters!!” one fan said. Well, batters have already been awarded first base in case of HBD. And also, the pitcher could get ejected if the umpires think the throw was intentional. Remember the Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman‘s suspension for throwing near the head of Rays’ Mike Brosseau back in 2020? This time, it doesn’t look like the pitch was intentional.

But yes, despite all this chaos, hopefully, Muncy will get some relief from getting hit anymore. Here, one user remarked. “Leave Max Muncy alone!” At the end, the good news is Muncy is all okay to take the batter’s box in the next game for the Dodgers. It’s just that the warrior is now heavily bruised.
