Shohei Ohtani turned in one of his best all-around games as a two-way player this Friday. The two-way marvel slammed three soaring home runs at the plate while also striking out 10 over six-plus scoreless innings. It was no surprise that the league and others took notice. Even when comedian Theo Von went to watch the Commodores face off the LSU Tigers, he took a moment to speak about Shohei Ohtani’s historic heroics at the NLCS.

In the process, their chat quickly spiraled into a hilarious rant that, somehow, ended up blaming Donald Trump.

OutKick’s Lynden Blake and country singer-songwriter Ernest told Von that he and Blake were discussing the Los Angeles Dodgers, particularly Shohei Ohtani’s standout performance that sealed the NLCS and punched their ticket to the World Series. “That was the greatest thing ever,” Von remarked.

It further led Blake to ask if the world will ever see another player like him. That’s when the conversation turned a bit.

“We’re not going to get as many Shoheis anymore because of the tariffs, dude. That’s the frickin’ shit I’m talking about. Take down the tariffs and get us more Shoheis,” Von joked.

Apparently, Theo is joking as if foreign baseball players are like imports. And only if the U.S. removed tariffs, it’d be easier to “import” more world-class players like Shohei Ohtani.

It’s tough to imagine another player quite like him, though.

The Dodgers as a whole were in complete control throughout the NLCS. They outclassed the Milwaukee Brewers in every department. Most importantly, their starting pitchers stepped up big time. That made up for their bullpen struggles, while the offense kept the pressure on by consistently getting on base and making life difficult for Milwaukee’s pitchers.

Meanwhile, throughout the entire October baseball season until Game 4, Ohtani was going through a slump and was called out by fans and analysts. But he silenced them all while hitting three homers over 400 feet each at the plate. His Friday’s outing was so remarkable that even the co-owner of the team expressed his pride.

Dodgers co-owner in awe of Shohei Ohtani’s excellence

Magic Johnson took it directly to social media and highlighted Shohei Ohtani’s brilliant performance. The Japanese phenom almost single-handedly powered the Dodgers towards a series-clinching win. And Magic Johnson’s words perfectly captured that emotion.

“Dodger Nation, Cookie and I just witnessed one of the greatest baseball players that’s ever lived, Shohei Ohtani…in the @Dodgers 5-1 victory over the Brewers tonight to advance to the World Series!” Alongside his wife, Cookie, he watched one of the most unforgettable performances in the history of the league.

Before Johnson, Chris Klemmer of Barstool Sports perfectly summed up Ohtani’s building legacy.

“Shohei Ohtani is the first player your grandkids will ask you if you saw.” Klemmer also drew an intriguing comparison between Shotime and Tom Brady. “Brady is more accomplished but Ohtani is the rarest.”

Even manager Dave Roberts praised the uniqueness of Shohei Ohtani.

“That was probably the greatest postseason performance of all time. There have been a lot of postseason games. And there’s a reason why he’s the greatest player on the planet.”
