President Donald Trump was in attendance for the New York Yankees’ game against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday. The Yankees held a pregame ceremony to honor the victims and heroes of the September 11 attacks on its 24th anniversary. The President’s appearance at Yankee Stadium comes just days after he showed up at the US Open final, marking his return to the Arthur Ashe Stadium after almost a decade, for Jannik Sinner’s clash with Carlos Alcaraz.

His presence that day was met with scattered and sustained boos, and Thursday night was no different either. After the national anthem concluded, members of the crowd started chanting “USA! USA!” with the President seen joining in shortly after on the Fox News live stream on X. That’s when a wave of boos also rose from some sections of the crowd.
It collided with cheers in a way, and meanwhile, some reporters on-site noted the cheers were stronger in their section, while others pointed to the boos reverberating through the stands. On the broadcast side, the YES Network, which carries Yankees games, had cut to a commercial promoting 2026 Yankees tickets right as the President was receiving a mix of applause and jeers.

He also took the opportunity to speak with the players in the locker room, including captain Aaron Judge. The president shook hands and encouraged the team briefly, joking that he’d been forced to invite the Boston Red Sox to the White House earlier this year.
The Yankees received a World Series prediction from President Donald Trump
During Donald Trump’s brief meeting with the Yankees crew at the clubhouse, he reminisced about late owner George Steinbrenner. “George Steinbrenner was a great friend of mine, the whole family; it’s a great family,” he said. The POTUS also made bold predictions for the Yankees’ postseason run. “You’re going to win. You’re going to go all the way. You’ll get in the playoff, and I think we’ll start—how about tonight? We’ll start from tonight, and you’re going to do well.” He said while speaking with the players. Well, the Yankees did win the game 9-3 over the Tigers. Entering Thursday, they were 3.5 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL East.

The President, much to the amusement of the Yankees players and the fans, also took a moment to jokingly credit himself for the Boston Red Sox’s 10-game winning run after Boston players visited him at the White House in July.
