Baseball never ceases to amaze fans. With the number of talented players gradually rising, supporters of the game get to see some unbelievable plays quite frequently nowadays. This takes place everywhere, from high schools to the Big Leagues. Most recently, New York Yankees legend CC Sabathia was left in awe by a Minor League player’s defensive effort. MLB fans were also left dumbfounded by the play.

Notably, the concerned player is the son of an MLB manager. Although the MLB gets most of the limelight, the Minor League also has some amazing plays to offer. This recent one by an MLB manager’s son proved just that to Sabathia and other baseball fans.

New York Yankees legend CC Sabathia left awestruck by Darren Baker’s defensive play

Darren Baker is the son of Dusty Baker, the manager of the Houston Astros. He currently plays for the Washington Nationals Triple-A affiliate, the Rochester Red Wings. Most recently, he made a dazzling defensive play while playing for the Red Wings. The effort was unbelievable. Yankees legend CC Sabathia shared a video clip of it on his Instagram Story. Sabathia tagged Darren and included the ‘fire’ and the ‘wide-eyes’ emoji to showcase his amazement. Meanwhile, fans reacted to it and they were excited. 

MLB shared a video of the play on Instagram and said, “Dusty Baker’s son, @__darrenbaker, with the behind-the-back play!” The opposing batter got a hit between first and second base. Darren slid on the ground and caught the ball behind his back in a spectacular fashion before throwing it to first to get the batter out. It was a truly remarkable effort.

The reactions to the defensive play have been wholly positive. 

Some fans were wowed by the fielding. They said, “Dude didn’t even look. He just knew”, “Oh my god! Nastyyyyy and smooth!”, “Not gonna lie this might be the sickest play I’ve ever seen”, and “That’s crazy 🔥🔥”.

Other fans focused on the fact that he is Dusty Baker’s son. They said, “Bruh just call him by his name… “Dusty Baker’s son” we get it 😂😂”, “We love any all Bakers!!!!!! Go astros!!!!” and “future astro darren baker”. 

But the play was truly spectacular and a huge positive for the 24-year-old MLB hopeful. Although Darren has not played at the MLB level yet, he got the better of his father during this year’s Spring Training.

In Spring Training, there were many storylines and plots shaping up as the MLB season drew closer. One of them was a family showdown between Dusty Baker and his son Darren Baker as the Houston Astros played the Washington Nationals. Darren got the better of his father by hitting a game-tying 9th-inning Grand Slam. This, in turn, helped the Nationals beat the Astros and gave Darren bragging rights over his father.
