$200 million+. That was the rumored amount for free agent Julio Urias. Being out of the big leagues since 2023, this Mexican pitcher was surely excited to sign a contract and be there on the field on Opening Day. But fate had something else in store!

It is no secret that Urias’ career has its fair share of legal battles. He was arrested outside BMO Stadium in Los Angeles in September 2023 following a conflict with his spouse. Consequently, MLB placed him on administrative leave while the incident was under investigation. And now, on March 21, 2025, the league has announced his suspension through the All-Star break after violating MLB’s Joint Domestic Violence, S***** A****** and Child A**** Policy.

The suspension will last until July 17, 2025.

This one is the second suspension for Julio Urias for violating the same policy, which no other major league player has ever faced. His first suspension, back in 2019, included 20 games.

But no matter what, we cannot deny that Julio Urias was an integral part of the Dodgers’ 2020 World Series-winning team. During his time in LA, from 2016 to 2023, he achieved a lot. In 2021, he won 20 games and in 2022, he was ranked third in the NL Cy Young Award voting. Urias had a win-loss record of 60–25, an ERA of 3.11, and 710 strikeouts over 717 innings pitched during his MLB career, so far. Impressive, right?

But now, can these recent legal troubles cast a shadow over his future – what do you think?
