Phillips first acknowledged both captains, saying, “He is such a gentleman, and such a leader and such a great representative of the organization, much like Derek Jeter is. In fact, I would actually tell you that I think Aaron Judge is certainly a better interview than Derek Jeter was.” This comes as little surprise given Jeter’s straight and sometimes curt answers.

The former Mets GM then pointed out the differences between Judge and Jeter. He said, “Derek Jeter knew that in the media, everybody wanted to get a quote, right? They just wanted something that said, Derek Jeter said this. Aaron Judge actually says something. Where Derek Jeter just gave you a throwaway line, Judge is really thoughtful.” Although Judge is known for his privacy, similar to Jeter, the current Yankees captain makes sure to carefully answer all media questions.
