“Are the Dodgers the favorite to win the World Series? Yes, but they’ve probably been a favorite for a lot of years. But it creates interest like “Geez! here’s a superteam can anyone beat them?” People are gonna be tracking that all year. I think it’s good for the sport.” Callis said.

The biggest worry regarding the Dodgers’ heavy spending has been that this creates disparity between teams. Callis then shared how, despite huge additions, it still doesn’t guarantee World Series success for the Dodgers. The playoffs are too unpredictable and tend to spring a surprise. Callis explained, “It’s still hard to win the playoffs. The Dodgers been very good, I think they’ve been in the playoffs for 11 years now but have won one World Series. Even if you get a bye in the first round. You’ve got to win three rounds of playoffs. I think baseball is more volatile in the playoffs than any other sport.”

One can argue that money cannot buy success. Last year proved it when the top three paid teams – the New York Mets, the New York Yankees, and the San Diego Padres failed to make it to the playoffs. So time will tell how things will stand for the Dodgers. But, one thing is certain – the Blue Crew will get a lot of eyeballs this season.
