The no.1 prospect of the New York Yankees, Spencer Jones, is no stranger to attention. Ever since, he was drafted by the Pinstripes in 2022. Starting as a two-way player, Jones gave up on pitching after a Tommy John surgery. But instead of losing hope, Jones worked on his hitting and has gradually seen himself becoming one of the most hyped prospects in MLB. But in an Exclusive interview with EssentiallySports, top analyst Jim Callis had other things to say for the prospect.

“It’s funny. I feel like I’m the low guy in Spencer Jones. I’m not, I like, I know there’s other people (who) like Spencer Jones more than me…he can hit the ball hard. He can hit the ball far…I mean, he’s a good prospect. I just don’t like him as much as some other people do. I think there’s some swing and miss issues there,” says Callis. So, while Callis liked Jones, he didn’t like him as much as others.

Callis then elaborated on the actual issues in the style of Jones, “he does not turn on a lot of pitches,” The MLB analyst then worried about Jones’ future in the major leagues with the Yankees, “But what’s gonna happen when he’s in the big leagues and guys are just pounding him inside, you know, a 97, 98 mile an hour fastballs, can he get the hands back and turn on those pitches and fight them off?”

However, the biggest surprise came when Callis shared that he’d trade Spencer Jones to get a highly sought-after player. So losing Jones wouldn’t be a huge blow for the Yankees.
