Chicago White Sox‘s Sean Burke’s day could have gone south really fast. First inning, bases loaded, two outs, and Rhys Hoskins was at the plate with a pitch, he absolutely crushed. Everyone in the stadium thought it was gone, given it had an expected batting average of .880! Except for Luis Robert Jr.

Robert Jr. took off toward the center field like a man on a mission. He leaped at the wall and stopped what had been written, GRAND-SLAM, all over it. It wasn’t just a highlight reel– it was a lifeline for the team that’s hanging by a thread now.

And as for Sean Burke, he couldn’t believe what he just saw!

“Holy [expletive], I can’t believe you caught that. Thank the lord. I don’t even remember, but that catch was insane. He later admitted to MLB, “I owe Luis something. I don’t know what I owe him. He’s got a lot more money than I do, but I owe him something.” Well, a fancy steak lunch, a pricey watch—he sure does owe him big time. But that play just lifted the pressure off the team. Burke then bounced back with six scoreless innings; he struck out five and didn’t issue another walk. It was his first win since opening day, a much-needed reset after their four consecutive losses. But let’s be honest, the only reason he even got this chance was because of Robert Jr.’s save.

After the game, Robert Jr. said, “I don’t know. All I know is I caught the ball.” Later, his interpreter also added, “I knew it was a very high fly ball and I knew that I had a chance to make the catch.” Well, it sure did save the day. Robert Jr. wasn’t done after that catch, though. He went to the plate too, racking up two hits, four RBIs, and his 13th stolen base of the year. The $50 million player’s first-inning single got the White Sox on the board, and his three-run double in the seventh simply iced the game.

Later, even Miguel Vargas joined the party–he hit three three-run homers and pushed the lead further. So, they got an 8-0 victory, snapped their losing streak, and beat the Milwaukee Brewers. And if there is one player who deserves the most credit, it’s Robert Jr.!

Luis Robert Jr. might not be with the Chicago White Sox for long

While the Chicago fans might be celebrating, the fact is that Robert Jr. might not be in their city for much longer. At 27 years old, he is the last remaining player in the White Sox’s brief run of contention. He has emerged as one of the frontliners when it comes to the trade market. And yes, even though the team is having a quiet season, he is still one of those few who have other teams’ attention.

It’s not without reason; he had a breakout year in 2023. He hit 38 homers and earned his first all-star selection. However, life threw him a curveball when he struggled with injuries in 2024. He missed two months due to a hip flexor strain. However, his recent performance is turning heads again, and the way he saved the day for the White Sox just speaks a thousand words.

Moreover, his contract makes him more desirable, he is owed $15 million in 2025. The club options of $20 million in both 2026 and 2025, are a no-brainer for those interested. MLB insider, Jon Morosi said that the Blue Jays are one possible fit since they are looking for outfield help. There are also rumors, about how the New York Mets might be interested in him too.
