Alex Rodriguez always went the distance for fans. The former Yankee star would always do the best he could to make the fans happy. Whether that was by hitting a home run or making a flashy play while fielding. This tendency of his even went beyond the ballpark as A-Rod would make similar efforts off the field.

The 2009 World Series champion once went out of his way to make an 11-year-old cancer survivor happy. Rodriguez gave the fan a few gifts and spent time with him.

11-year-old cancer survivor Jason Falco was given a special tour of Yankee Stadium, courtesy of Brandon Steiner. And during that visit, he got the chance to meet his favorite player, Alex Rodriguez.

Former Yankee’s third baseman Alex Rodriguez gave a young cancer survivor a pair of gloves and a signed bat.

During the visit, A-Rod popped up to surprise his special fan and even gave him a few gifts. This happened on the television show “The Hook-Up with Brandon Steiner.” While showing him the bats that he uses, A-Rod picked up a pair of his batting gloves and gave them to Falco. A-Rod gave Falco the gloves and said “These are my batting gloves. I’m going to let you take one of these home.”

Earlier on the show, A-Rod had played catch with the 11-year-old and even introduced him to some of the other players.

A-Rod talked about adversity and making mistakes

At the show’s end, Steiner asked Rodriguez what he would tell kids who were facing adversity or wanted to be in A-Rod’s position. The Yankee star then said, “Number one, hopefully, we’re not defined by the mistakes that we make. But how we respond and how we come back is what matters as well. And life is a game of mistakes and so is baseball.”
