From making his MLB debut as a 20-year-old rookie to winning five world series in his entire career, Derek Jeter has come a long way. However, in the beginning, even Jeter doubted himself. It was because of him making mistakes in 1995 and thinking that he would get sent back to the minors. But the management kept their faith in him. And he flourished by getting his first accolade to his name, Rookie of the Year, in 1996.

It was the same year when the Yanks won the World Series after a year of brutally losing to the Mariners in the ALDS in 1995. About that time, former skipper of the New York Yankees, Joe Torre, once spoke of how the “unusual” Derek Jeter won hearts in the clubhouse.

What did the former skipper say about Derek Jeter?

Jeter, with three of his teammates, and under the leadership of manager Joe Torre, won four World Series. And hence, he became a part of the Core Four. The Core Four had become pretty famous. Therefore, two years ago, Derek Jeter, the Core Four minus one, sat for an interview with Joe Torre. Doing so, they spoke of the Yankees Dynasty over the years.

At the moment, Torre spoke about Jeter’s first year in MLB as a big league player from the start of the season. “His rookie year, he come on as 21-year-old rookie, and by August, I guess, you can say, a lot of the Veterans on our club were looking for Derek to do something, because they had gained so much trust. He had earned so much trust by that time in the first year that they were relying on him, which is so unusual in our game,” said Torre about Jeter.

The whole team relying on one player to do something is still unusual and would probably remain so. But the words out of Torre’s mouth were an example of how great of an athlete Derek Jeter was during his iconic career in the Bronx.

What’s Captain Clutch up to these days?

Merely three months ago, it was announced that Derek Jeter would be working as an MLB analyst at Fox Network. However, a lot has changed since then. Earlier this month, Jeter celebrated his wife, supermodel Hannah Jeter’s birthday. Three days later, he announced the birth of his fourth child, Kaius Green Jeter, who, by the way, shares the same birth date as his mother.

Being a parent to one kid is tough enough, let alone four. But Derek Jeter seems to be doing a great job at it.
