It certainly wouldn’t have felt this painful to be an Orioles fan. Speaking technically, their Friday’s 15-8 loss to the San Francisco Giants isn’t the worst one yet. After all, no one around the league could possibly forget those brutal back-to-back-to-back 108+ loss seasons a few years ago. However, the latest defeat might just be the most gutting. Three errors in one half-inning. That’s all it took for the Orioles to hand over control of the game.

Former MLB pitcher turned announcer Dontrelle Willis practically spelled out the Orioles’ downfall, and they went ahead to ultimately prove him right. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, shortstop Jackson Holliday made a fielding error that allowed the Giants to score a run on a Willy Adames single.
Then, just as Rafael Devers came up to bat with two runners on base, FOX Announcer Willis couldn’t help but call out the Orioles for their sloppy defense. “See, this is another team that needs to learn how to play cleanly. You can’t give away outs in the big league game after game and expect to be successful.” The former All-Star pitcher said. The Orioles clearly ignored Willis’ words. When Rafael Devers hit a single to left field, outfielder Dylan Beavers messed up the throw to home plate. That miscue let Devers move up to second base. That late throw to second allowed Willy Adames to score all the way from first.

The poor play continued further as well. Matt Chapman hit a ground ball to third that should have been an easy out. However, Emmanuel Rivera’s throw to first bounced in the dirt. It allowed Chapman to reach base and extend the inning.

Before the merciful seventh inning came to an end, the Giants scored one more run. It was a nightmare to witness the Orioles committing all three of their errors in one half inning of play that led to their 15-8 loss. Amidst the Orioles’ blunder-filled stretch, they’ve been issued a warning.
MLB Analyst issued a warning to the Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles’ record stands at a dismal 60-75 after their recent loss. Right before their game against the Giants, Dayn Perry from CBS Sports issued a straight warning to the team. Perry believes that the team will be making a big mistake if they trade away Adley Rutschman this offseason.
The 27-year-old, former number one pick, still has two years remaining with the organization before he would become a free agent. According to Perry, the Orioles should keep him. “The O’s are very much intending to return to contention this season after a disappointing 2025, and Rutschman helps that objective. On another level, Rutschman has been in a pattern of offensive decline ever since his rookie season. He’d have much more trade value coming off a reversal of that trend, so from that standpoint it’s worth giving him another year to re-establish some offensive value.” He said.
He could split catching duties with rookie catcher Samuel Basallo. It certainly wouldn’t be the worst idea for the Orioles in 2026. When one does not catch behind the plate, the other could play first base or take over the DH role. The Orioles view Basallo as the long-term catcher, so they already gave him that long-term contract.

They should do the same with Rutschman. He is currently on the 10-day injured list with a minor right oblique strain. Across 85 games played, he has a .227 batting average with nine home runs and 27 RBIs, along with a .310 on-base percentage.
Do you agree with Dayn Oerry? Should Baltimore give a new long-term deal to Adley Rutschman? Or should they trade him? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
