The Red Sox acquired Sale in a blockbuster trade in 2017. He got bought as a match-winner and lived up to the expectations. Making significant contributions, he won the World Series Championship with the Red Sox in 2018. But since 2020, fitness issues have riddled his career, thereby impacting his performance. Now Sale has a broken wrist from a bike accident.
Chris Sale: Another season ruined by injuries
The ongoing MLB season is moving on from bad to worse for the Red Sox. Possibly one of the worst ever in terms of performances. A poor 54-57 win-loss record means the Red Sox are out of any title contention. Add to that, a season-ending injury to a star player.

Chris Sale broke his right wrist in a bike accident last week. So he underwent surgery on Monday, which puts him away for the remaining season. Sale already missed most of this season earlier due to a rib cage injury. He also fractured the little finger of his pitching hand after being hit by a line drive in his second game of this season.

According to a source the Red Sox Chief Officer, Chaim Bloom, spoke about Sale’s bike accident saying, “You couldn’t make this up. It stinks. It’s really unfortunate. We’re relieved this wasn’t worse, obviously. Very glad this wasn’t worse. But it’s been such a run of bad luck for him and obviously for us.”
The situation at present
Sale’s broken wrist is now stabilized through an open reduction for internal fixation surgery. He is supposed to heal in two months. Missing the entire 2020 season due to a ligament surgery, he started in nine games last season. Jinxed by a string of injuries, he could only pitch a total of 5⅔ innings this season.
