The 2023 free agency is anticipated to be one of the most interesting ones, with groundbreaking deals and surprising contract extensions. Amidst these, the baseball world may also witness some trades happening in an attempt to alter the roster. While LA Angles’ Shohei Ohtani is speculated to receive the record-breaking contract, the San Diego Padres’ Juan Soto’s trade rumors are making the rounds. Since the trade rumor is up, several potential contenders are emerging as his next landing spots. However, the New York Yankees appear at the top of the list. While Soto’s contract extension news with the Padres put a halt on the rumors a few days back, an MLB insider recently reignited those speculations with three potent reasons for the Yankees to acquire Soto.

Since the Dominican star joined the Padres in 2022, the team had a great time playing for the NLCS that year. However, events took a twisted turn this season, and the team could not even make it to the playoffs. But Soto played his part well.

The Soto trade rumor originated from the news of the Padres cutting down their payroll. But since the rumor started, the Dominican Republican outfielder has been linked with the Yankees. While trade rumors have been circulating sporadically, Britt Ghiroli rekindled optimism among Yankees fans by outlining three convincing arguments for why Soto and the team are an ideal fit.

During her recent interview session with SNY, Britt focused on three points that are vital to consider. First, she talked about the family ties. Soto used to be incredibly close to his family, and when he came to California from Washington, his family could not visit him often.

Secondly, Soto’s mother used to stay with him in D.C., and brought him food during home games. But after he joined the Padres, that stopped. So, per Ghiroli, East Coast teams will be the best choice for the Padres superstar. Then, she focused on Soto’s preference for New York. According to her, the 25-year-old outfielder loves the atmosphere and stage of New York.

Joining the Yankees will offer him numerous advantages, allowing him to once more savor quality family time while providing his parents with more frequent opportunities to visit him. However, there are several other potent teams that are reportedly eyeing Soto. Recently, the Yankees’ rivals, the Boston Red Sox, came into the limelight.
