In a thriller, Tampa Bay Rays beat the New York Yankees by 4-3, yesterday. However, the reasons that surrounded this victory did not include as much excellence from the Rays as compared to the Yankees’ blunders. Correspondingly, Yankees’ center fielder, Aaron Hicks, dropped two sitters in yesterday’s match, which essentially cost them the game.

Aaron Hicks made his MLB debut with the Minnesota Twins in 2013. In 2016, Hicks traded into the Yankee setup. Eventually, in 2019, he signed a seven-year contract extension for $70 million. Moreover, his career statistics are barely impressive, with a BA of 0.212.

How did fans react to Aaron Hicks and his fielding blunder?

Hicks ran towards the ball and assuming it was a foul ball, he casually tried to grasp it. Albeit, after realizing that the ball was in play, as the ball lay on the left-field line, Hicks looked disgusted. Adding to his misery, the Rays continued running around the base and reached home. Similar to Hicks’ disgust, fans took their disappointment to Twitter.

While having a bad day on the field, all the balls manage to find you. Similarly, Hicks’ misery didn’t end after one drop. One ball later, Hicks could be seen aimlessly misjudging an air ball and dropped another dolly.

Consequently, midway through the game, Boone pulled him out.

Boone said, “I just felt like I needed to get him out of there at that point.” Ultimately, while leaving the ballpark, fans shunned Hicks with chants of “Joe Gallo,” ending his dreadful night.

Hicks and Judge’s double grand slam

While Aaron Judge and homers are going extremely well together this season, Hicks has been part of an average season at best. However, earlier this season, the Yankees played a perfect game against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. Aaron Judge, Aaron Hicks, and Giancarlo Stanton led the attack. The game concluded with Hicks and Judge both hitting a grand slam each and the Yanks beating the Pirates with the scoreline of 16-0.

Talkin’ Yanks shared a video of the game and captioned it, “If your name is Aaron and you play for the New York Yankees, you hit a grand slam tonight.”
