The All-Star game is finally here. With anticipation building, fans finally get to see their favorite stars playing together and against each other. New York Yankees’ ace Gerrit Cole is one player whose contributions were recognized as he was selected to pitch. But the Bronx Bombers’ star was pulled from the game despite a perfect start. 

Cole has been a bright spot for the Yankees all season long. Despite having injuries, poor form, and blunders around him, the ace has maintained his impressive form. He continued that trend in the All-Star game as well, but only to get removed early in a controversial decision.

Gerrit Cole started the All-Star game for the first time during his 6th overall selection. A momentous occasion for the Yankees’ ace as he pitches a great season. He pitched a perfect inning, with no hits or walks. But Cole was pulled off of the mound after his first inning. This has led to some controversy, as he may have had the chance to pitch a perfect game. Talkin’ Yanks shared the update with his stats from the game on Twitter. 

In a Tweet, they said, “Gerrit Cole was on pace to throw a perfect game and they took him out smh”. If he had achieved it, it would have been the first time a perfect game was thrown at the All-Star game. But given the format of the Midsummer Classic, it was highly unlikely that Cole would pitch more than one or two innings.
