Brett Phillips is not an average baseball player. He’s a rare gem, a self-proclaimed two-way player, and a defensive genius. With his energy levels soaring high and his skills blazingly bright, the outfielder is the kind of player any team would love to have on their roster. And now, with his recent signing with the Los Angeles Angels, the AL side has secured a valuable addition that could help them win the championship this season.

Phillips’ defining moment came in the 2020 World Series with the Tampa Bay Rays, where his phenomenal base hit led the team to victory against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 4 of the World Series. And now, as he joins forces with superstars Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout, the Angels’ lineup looks unstoppable. But first, off the court, Phillips was asked a question – will he face Ohtani as a pitcher or a hitter?

Brett Phillips is a character who, with his quick wit and infectious charm, electrifies the crowds. When asked about facing Shohei Ohtani, Phillips couldn’t resist cracking a joke about their past encounter on the mound.

What he said, “He’s tough, I will say, I kept him in the park last season. He only had a double off the wall. Doesn’t quite have it, especially when he’s facing Brett Phillips so I’m glad he’s on my team.”

Last season, the outfielder had the privilege of pitching against the two-way phenom, and while he gave up a double off the wall, he managed to keep Ohtani in the park. Phillips joked that Ohtani just couldn’t handle the heat when facing him.

However, commenting on the outfielder’s exceptional pitching skills, when the player did manage to hold Ohtani just inside the park, he couldn’t contain the power of Mike Trout, who hit two home runs off him.

Brett Phillips’ current tenure with the Los Angeles Angels

Brett Phillips is no stranger to the big leagues, but joining the Angels was a whole different experience for him. With a roster full of “superstars”, including Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani, the outfielder admitted that he felt a bit intimidated at first, according to mlb.com. He continued, “I had no reason to be intimidated because these guys are really good dudes. Really humble guys, who at the end of the day just want to win and be good teammates.”

Of course, the athlete isn’t content to just coast along with the Angels. He’s been working hard in the offseason to “revamp” his swing, and he’s been feeling good about it and feels he’s headed in the right direction. And that’s really what it’s all about for Phillips – being the best he can be for his team. Whether he’s on the outfield or stepping up to the plate, he’s determined to make a difference. And it’s hard not to root for him!
