The baseball world is waking up to major headlines every day and most fans don’t know how to feel about them. While MLB heavyweights like the Yankees, Mets, and Braves are adding valuable players to their rosters, the Chicago Cubs are also having a decent offseason this year. Although the Cubs signed a slugger to strengthen their roster, MLB fans still believe that it won’t do any good to the NL side.

Notably, after signing a remarkable shortstop, Dansby Swanson, the Cubs reportedly landed Eric Hosmer in their clubhouse. The Cubs will probably find Hosmer’s promising career trajectory, with a .277 batting average and .764 OPS, favorable in the upcoming seasons. But there are still some who think the team could have done better than Hosmer.

What are the fans saying?

As with any new signing, people are conflicted about this one, too. Some think the free agent might not last a full season, and that the Cubs should have waited for a better first baseman.

Since Hosmer has dealt with injuries earlier in his career, one fan seems to think Hosmer should quit while he’s ahead.

Knowing that Hosmer has proved his worth in the past seasons while playing for the Boston Red Sox and San Diego Padres, some MLB fans think the Cubs can pull ahead with the seasoned MLB veteran.

What does this new deal mean for Eric Hosmer?

It will be interesting to see the details of the deal when they’re released because Hosmer is technically still signed on to the San Diego Padres. The Cubs will only have to pay Hosmer the minimum salary because he still has $39 million and three years left on a contract he signed with the Padres back in 2018. San Diego traded him to the Boston Red Sox last season and then once again became a free agent by the end of last year.

Hosmer had an OPS of over 1.000 last year, but the tail end of the year saw him simmer down to only .636. Still, it looks like the Cubs are hoping their deal with the first baseman will pay off in the long term.

Hosmer will be joining the Cubs’ latest acquisitions Cody Bellinger, shortstop Dansby Swanson, catcher Tucker Barnhart, and pitcher Jameson Taillon.
