It’s been 17 years since Hal Steinbrenner took over the throne, yet he has no rings to show. That’s the bitter truth, and at the thick of all the drama is Aaron Boone and his seat that’s starting to feel a little too hot now. Since taking over the New York Yankees, he has surely managed some great regular-season runs, but a championship? Nada!

It’s tough to believe that this is the same team or the only team that has managed to win three championships in a row: 1998-2000, aka the golden period of the team. But now, under Boone, they lost in a bitter row to the Dodgers last season. Had Juan Soto leave pinstripes to go settle crosstown, and now forget the championship; the Yankees getting to the playoffs would be a miracle.

They are barely hanging on to their third place in the Wild Card spot, with the Guardians trailing half a game behind them. Now, fans are wanting a change of leadership, and even insiders like Joel Sherman are calling out the owner to make changes.

Sherman of the New York Post didn’t sugarcoat things, saying that the Yanks right now are all about Aaron Judge and Max Fried. And when the duo doesn’t perform, that’s it for the team. Sherman questioned the culture of the team: “The chorus when you count on, ‘Let’s play baseball well, let’s win the game when Judge doesn’t hit a home run, let’s win the game when Fried doesn’t pitch well,’ is not the psyche of the team—it’s not the culture of the team. And therefore they don’t win, and they sit around, and they wait for heroes and homers…This should not be unacceptable to Hal Steinbrenner, Brian Cashman, Aaron Boone & Aaron Judge.”

And is it far-fetched to think so? Because Judge is back from the flexor injury, and by the way he is playing, it just looks like he was pulled in early. Plus, what Sherman said is something that even WFAN BT blasted the Yankees about. He asked Hal Steinbrenner to fire everyone if the Yankees don’t manage to make it to the playoffs this season. And given the way they are progressing, it seems like that might have to be the call. Plus, now not just fans are disagreeing with Boone; even his own players are not.

Just after the loss to the Astros, Boone told the team that they were “feeling it.” That they would figure things out. But Judge went straight out against the narrative, saying, “We’re just not playing good baseball… we’re not doing our job.” The frustrations have started to seep in, and unless the entire team plays as a whole, getting to the playoffs seems a far-off possibility now.

Yankees’ deadline picks backfire

A mid-season miracle is what the Yankees were hoping the trade deadline would bring. Brian Cashman, in hopes of turning things around, added costly pieces. However, what’s sad is that three of those reinforcements meant to help the team are already in jeopardy. Starting with the name, Amed Rosario. The former Met came to the Bronx as a utility man but has only been in the outfield. Which is yet another issue—playing out of position by Yankees players has been brought to light recently, too.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Aaron Boone the right leader for the Yankees, or is it time for a fresh start?

Have an interesting take?

Now, FanSided’s Stephen Parello did not mince words, saying Rosario could be in danger of being thrown off the roster by September itself. “Despite a .600 batting average over his first three contests in pinstripes, his time on the roster might not be for long… He’ll be the victim of a better configuration soon becoming available.”

That better configuration seems to be the two other deadline additions—Jose Caballero and Austin Slater. Now, Caballero brings a sharp defense in the infield, and Parello pointed out that he has four more years of team control than Rosario, whose contract is expiring. Slater, meanwhile, hits lefties well, and he is fit for the team. However, right now, even he, like Rosario, is on the injured list, and when they both make a return, the Yankees might have to choose.
