While Yanks were engaged in the Old Timers’ Day, their GM Brian Cashman is dealing with twisted fate. Amid the Bronx Bombers’ fans blaming him for the team’s performance, asking for his removal, Cashman recently journeyed to Japan, witnessing and enjoying another baseball game giving a solid excuse.

After Shohei Ohtani, Japan has another rising baseball star trying to make his way to MLB. Yankees’ GM along with other MLB executives, went to witness ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s performance. However, while he was surrounded by media asking about soon-to-be free agent’s recent not-so-‘fantastic’ Saturday performance, he chose not to entertain any rumors, creating controversies.

Brian Cashman Provides No Hope About Yoshinobu Yamamoto Joining Yankees

Yoshinobu Yamamoto is the latest rising Japanese baseball talent expected to get significantly higher offer than that of Masahiro Tanaka. On Saturday, the game between Orix Buffaloes and Lotte Marines happened in the presence of several MLB executives, with the Yankees GM sitting in the first row. To everyone’s surprise, the 25-year-old had second no-hitter game with the Marines after his first against the Seibu Lions last year.

Two-time Pacific League MVP is being considered one of the greatest prospects for the next MLB season, with teams probably approaching him during the offseason. Because the Yankees always have the record to get the potent young talents, their GM’s appearance fueled the rumor.

However, when asked about the no-hitter, Cashman replied, “Fantastic. It was great for the fans and great for his team, and I am glad as a seer.” But when he was asked about his joining the New York based team next year, while choosing not to give a word he added, “Have a good day.”

Although the GM’s presence signifies that Yamamoto is indeed a potent contender, right at this point, it would have been hard for him to confirm his presence in the 2024 roster.

While their GM is engaged in garnering new prospects for the lineup, the Yankees are having a rough time in their MLB season. They made history of 11 hitless innings along with their new player Jasson Dominguez sustaining a UCL tear.

Regardless of the Yankees GM trying hard to get young talent on the roster, the consistent injuries, be it to the Yankees veteran Aaron Judge or the newer prospects Jasson Dominguez,  Yoshinobu’s joining the team is a big question.

Will Yamamoto Be in The Yankees Next Year?

The Yankees have always had an exemplary track record with Japanese pitchers including Shohei Ohtani. Similarly, the 25-year-old Japanese star is undoubtedly a talent that should be nourished. Indeed, because of the statistics that the young player has showcased in 2023 season.

Yamamoto fanned eight batters, issued just one walk, and plunked one batter in the 4-0 triumph, stretching his consecutive scoreless innings streak to an impressive 42. As a result, garnering 1.26 ERA, 145 strikeouts, and 24 walks in 143 innings.

Yamamoto doesn’t have enough service time to be a free agent in Japan. However, he can join MLB teams with green signals both his current team and the team he will join. However, with the present condition of the Yankees, it is hard to say what they will do next.

Growing up in a family where sports was a topic of daily discussion, baseball drew my interest the most. I admired the post-retirement journey of Alex Rodriguez and the rise of Shohei Ohtani and Elly De La Cruz to stardom in the current baseball generation. Forever enamored by Bryce Harper and the way his career is progressing, I love covering most East Coast teams. When not writing, you can always find me at the library, buried between the pages of a book. “There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so,” from Shakespeare’s Hamlet is a favorite for me. When not surrounded by words, I’m usually in the battlefields of COD and Fortnite!
