This off-season has been a monumental mountain for the New York Yankees to climb. Following the 2023 season, there were more questions than answers surrounding the team’s future. Furthermore, it seemed that the Bombers were on a downward spiral. But now, following a relatively active off-season, questions arise about whether the team is ready to compete this year.

There were several areas of concern for the team following the disaster of the 2023 season. Lacking star power, a struggling offense and many other aspects played an impact. But now that the team has solved some of those issues, will 2024 be a year of contention for the New York Yankees?

In a somewhat dry free agency class, the New York Yankees acquired Juan Soto, arguably the best trade piece. This has been the biggest and most important addition to the team. Soto adds star power to a lineup that struggled desperately when Aaron Judge was injured in 2023. Furthermore, he is a lefty hitter, something the Yankees desperately needed. But that’s not the only move they have made.

Trent Grisham and Alex Verdugo are 2 other decent names the team brought in via trade. Both figure to be quality additions to the squad with Verdugo likely a starter in left field. This has allowed them to make up for the depth that was sorely lacking last season. Furthermore, the defensive versatility is an added bonus. Furthermore, the team has added Marcus Stroman in a big deal to strengthen the rotation. With this, although the Yankees may not be the favorites, they should definitely be contenders.

There will be a lot of pressure on the team to perform from the get-go following a terrible 2023. The playoffs will be an absolute minimum with many expecting a deep run following Soto’s addition. But there is a lot that the Yankees need to get right.

Yankees’ pitchers need to be in form

By adding Juan Soto, the New York Yankees have fixed their struggling offense, but pitching is still a concern. Despite adding Marcus Stroman, they will need Carlos Rodon and Nestor Cortes Jr. to make a comeback and have good seasons in 2024. Both pitchers struggled to make an impact amid injuries and poor form. Furthermore, after losing Michael King, the bullpen has lost some of its strength as well.
