Baseball icon Derek Jeter rigorously played for the New York Yankees for over two decades. He had a lengthy yet incredibly successful career before he hung up his cleats in 2014. Since then, he might have never picked up a baseball bat, but he couldn’t stay away from the game any longer than a few years.

In the year 2017, with the help of NBA legend Michael Jordan and other investors, he managed to buy stakes in the MLB franchise, Miami Marlins. As he did so, he also moved his family from the Big Apple to the Magic City, Miami. Even though he worked for the Marlins, he was still a Yankee from the heart. But his focus remained only on the Marlins. Therefore, when he was asked about the Yankees’ performance during the 2021 MLB season, he didn’t have much to say.

Jeter, during his stint as CEO of the Marlins, stayed in the position for four and a half years. During this time, he tried his best to make the Marlins a powerful team. Therefore, before a Marlins game against the Yankees, the captain got asked how much he was keeping tabs on the Bronx Bombers after his retirement.

To everybody’s shock, Jeter replied to the YES Network’s reporter, “Not much really! I mean, you hear it obviously with the headlines and everything. But I got my hands full down here in Miami. So I haven’t paid too much attention. But I know pretty much what’s going on, but not the details.”

The captain, who had an engrossed personality during his career with the Yanks, stayed the same when he retired. He maintained his focus on what was in front of him rather than what was in the past. Therefore, when he worked as the CEO of Marlins, his major focus was not on the Yankees. But again, from his heart, Derek Jeter will forever remain a Yankee.

Jeter got one vote short!

Baseball icon Derek Jeter was set to appear on the Hall of Fame ballot for the first time in 2020. From the looks of it, it seemed like he’d be following in the footsteps of his former teammate Mariano Rivera and get unanimously voted into Cooperstown.
