Derek Jeter and Michael Jordan are legendary players of baseball and basketball, respectively. Given the towering success, they both achieved, their popularity extends beyond their sport. Those two ambassadors of their sport need no formal introduction. But the fact that Michael Jordan once played baseball is still relatively lesser known. 

Michael Jordan dominated the NBA during his playing tenure. A player for the Chicago Bulls, Jordan played approximately for 15 years for the franchise. Jordan won six championships, six Finals MVPs, and was a 14-time All-Stars player. With self-explanatory records on display, Jordan established himself as an all-time basketball great. Whereas Derek Jeter spent nearly 20 glorious years in the MLB playing for the New York Yankees and winning five World Series Championships.

Derek Jeter and Michael Jordan have always held each other in high regard. Two respected athletes with immense mutual respect. This feeling of warmth that persists dates long back to 1994, a time when Jordan used to play baseball in the Arizona Fall League.

Defining the strong bonding between the two, Jeter stated about Jordan saying, “I’ve known Michael Jordan since he was playing baseball in Arizona fall. He always took me under his wings like a big brother to me. We’re getting closer throughout the years. Even closer post-playing career.”

Jordan first played baseball in the Arizona Fall for the Chicago White Sox’s Double-A Class affiliate team Scottsdale Scorpions in 1994. Following on, Jordan even played one MLB game for the White Sox as a right fielder against the Chicago Cubs. Later, Jordan went on to play for another White Sox Double-A Class affiliate team in Birmingham Barons. From where it was a wrap-up. 

A passionate baseball lover, Jordan attended Jeter’s game on Derek Jeter Day. It was Jeter’s farewell game on the Yankees’ home turf. Jordan even penned a letter to Jeter, before the game. Up against the Baltimore Orioles, much to the pleasure of the entire fan base, the Yankees registered a thrilling victory through Derek Jeter’s heroics

Giving due respect, Derek Jeter has always maintained his viewpoint as to how Michael Jordan is an idol both as a player and a human being. Retired from basketball in 2003, Jordan is now the prime owner of the Charlotte Hornets in the NBA and 23XI Racing in NASCAR. Having endorsed numerous brands, Jordan is one of the most marketed athletes worldwide. While Jeter, after retiring in 2014, was briefly the joint owner of the Miami Marlins for over four years. Jeter lives a happy life with his wife and three daughters.
