Controversies and criticisms are part of a player’s life. Even legends often find themselves on the opposite side of the criticism. While the baseball career of Derek Jeter is almost stainless, his post-retirement career dragged him into a controversy. The Fox Sports analysts were spotted several times enjoying their time in the studio during the postseason. From bizarre celebrations to shooting commercials, they have enjoyed their time thoroughly. But a recent event brought brutal criticism to Jeter. A renowned MLB insider aimed at the legend and ripped him off despite his clarification of the event.

A few days back, before the ALCS Game 5, David Ortiz gave all his colleagues cowboy hats to embrace the Texas showdown. Though others have no issues wearing the hat, the former Yankees captain refused it. He stated, “New Yorkers don’t do this.” This statement, along with his refusal to wear the hat, made him the target of Brandon Tierney’s brutal criticism.

Tierney never really seemed to stand for the former Yankees captain. Referring to the cowboy hat incident, the top insider is now questioning Jeter’s role as an analyst. The cowboy hat incident was not that serious, as none of the MLB legends mind it. They continued their fun, and the Yankees icon also joined it. Later, the 5x World Series Champion cleared everything on his Instagram. He posted a photo wearing the black cowboy hat and captioned it, “Relax!!! It was just a skit.

While this was enough for the MLB enthusiasts to leave the topic, Tierney is not ready to give up so early. He continued his attacks on Jeter during his recent WFAN podcast, saying, “Jeter, amazing player obviously, a great person clearly, but I never connected with Jeter as a player as much … it was the same recycled nonsense after every game. Never put himself out there.”

Continuing his point further, he clearly stated, “This is further evidence that he’s a smart guy and knows the game, but he just doesn’t have it, man. He doesn’t have it as an analyst.” To further continue his attack, the MLB insider even questioned Jeter’s behavior towards Ortiz in his first episode.

The welcome gift of the former Yankees captain from his former rival was a remarkable event in Fox Sports history. In this first episode as an MLB analyst, the Yankees icon received a Red Sox jersey from the former Red Sox legend, with his name written on it. Jeter immediately threw it. However, this action brought a wave of laughter among his co-analysts, including Ortiz.

Months later, Tierney referred to this incident to question Jeter’s role as an analyst. He said while Ortiz laughed at his cleverness in doing the prank, the Yankees icon threw the jersey because “Yankees legends don’t wear Red Sox jerseys as a prop.”
