The Los Angeles Dodgers couldn’t stop boasting after winning the World Series against the New York Yankees. Sure, it is normal for a champion team to brag a little. But the Dodgers took it to another level, simply trolling the opposition and their defensive struggles in the World Series.

The New York Yankees had to hear it all – every dig and insult. Of course, they weren’t too happy. The former Yankee infielder Jon Berti, now with the Chicago Cubs, made it clear that this trash talk didn’t sit well with the New York Yankees. That even if they lost, the thrash made no sense.

Berti mentioned in Foul Territory, “I don’t know if I’ve ever heard a World Series-winning team talk as badly as they did about the World Series-losing team. It felt like we were being disrespected to the point that we didn’t even belong in the World Series.”

Now to be fair, the New York Yankees did have an uphill battle in 2024. Like getting Nestor Cortes to face Freddie Freeman. That was a huge blunder! But even then, they did reach there after taking out the Kansas City Royals and Cleveland Guardians. Highlighting that they earned their spot in the WS, Jon Berti mentioned, We won a lot of games last year. We won our division…. Unfortunately, we didn’t perform at our best.”

However, not everyone thought that the Los Angeles Dodgers comments were much of a big deal. 2005 World Series champion and Foul Territory’s host A.J. Pierzynski at least didn’t think there was anything wrong with the comments.

Pierzynski said, Hey, listen, alcohol is a hell of a drug, especially when you interview guys right after winning the World Series. Listen, you never know what they’re going to say. Okay, so I don’t know that I’d take it that personally because there might be some I don’t remember even what they said until they watch the tape. So let’s just—to the victors go the spoils, right? They won. Unfortunately, you were on the team that lost.” Ouch!

So, seems like it depends on who you ask whether the Dodgers were celebrating just too hard or crossing the line. But either way, the Yankees might not be forgetting it soon.

Times when Dodgers trolled the New York Yankees after WS collapse

It’s tough to argue the New York Yankees were smacked quite a lot. Chris Taylor and Joe Kelly took shots at their performance. On the Mookie Betts podcast, Taylor Bounty stated that the Yankees, “crapped down their leg” during the crucial fifth inning of Game 5. According to him, the pressure was on them, and they kept making mistakes time and again. “They were pressing. It was one thing after the next. … All we’ve got to do is put the ball in play right now,” said Taylor. Even Joe Kelly didn’t hold back either.

Joe Kelly mentioned that the New York Yankees were simply, “sloppy.” Kelly told Rob Bradford, “I mean, you saw, Shohei (Ohtani) got an extra base going to third on a sloppy Gleyber (Torres) play. It’s well known. We all knew. We’re the Dodgers; we know every little detail. But past that, it was a fun series. They almost snagged a couple of wins. It was just a mismatch from the get-go.” According to him, the Yankees did not deserve a playoff spot, saying that they would have ranked eighth or ninth in re-seeding.

Well, such backlash isn’t unheard of, but surely, for players, it would sting. They weren’t just beaten; they felt humiliated.

But now, they have a rock-solid team, and with their off-season moves, it seems like they are up for redemption. Sure, they don’t have Juan Soto, but some argue that his leaving was a blessing in disguise as they are now more well-rounded with players like Cody Bellinger, Max Fried, and more in the bullpen.
