Is there some uncanny resemblance in the journey of the former Yankee legend Derek Jeter and upcoming superstar Aaron Judge?

Derek Jeter, in his 20-year-long career with the Yankees, was a 14-time All-Star and 5-time World Series Champion. As a result, in 2020, they elected him to the Baseball Hall of Fame. His success and respect stretched to his jersey number 2, which the New York Yankees retired in 2017. On the other hand, there is another successful Yankee in Aaron Judge. Since he made his debut in 2016, Judge has been part of 4 All-Star teams and has won two Silver Slugger Awards.

On Sunday, while the Yankees played the Red Sox, during the KayRod Cast?feed, the former Yankee was all praises for Aaron Judge. Notably, with free agency in the air, Judge had turned down a seven-year extension worth $213.5 million.

What does Derek Jeter have to say about Aaron Judge’s performance this season?

Many would say that it wasn’t very wise of Aaron Judge to reject the seven-year extension. Moreover, rejecting the Yankee’s extension meant that Judge HAD to perform this season. He was indeed “betting on himself.” Strikingly, he’s batted at 0.300?with 46 homers and has massively contributed to the Yankee’s success this season.

While talking about Aaron’s splendid performance this season coupled with him not signing the Yankee’s contract, Derek Jeter says, “What Aaron has been able to do this year is pretty tough to do. To do it in a free agent year, when all eyes are on you. He’s betting on himself. You’ve gotta give him credit for that.”

The risk that Aaron took a few months back was definitely paying off. According to USA Today Sport, Judge is looking for a nine-year deal around a ballpark figure of $300 million, and given the season he’s been having, the bet he made on himself is about to pay off incredibly.

What lies ahead for Aaron Judge?

Despite his unbelievably brilliant season, teams will have a few concerns before listing a price. Judge is already 30 years old. In addition to that, he has missed 140 games from 2018 to 2020 due to a wrist and calf injury. The big question is how long can he sustain himself and whether he can replicate these performances in seasons to come.
