Another day, another Donald Trump-New York Yankees connection in the headlines. After Brian Cashman’s recent press conference rant generated heat among the Bronx faithful, another incident has ignited a wild discussion. During former President Donald Trump’s rally in Hialeah, Florida, a Yankees pitcher was unexpectedly brought up, apparently out of context. Unfortunately, it was his undoing.

Donald Trump is currently eyeing the 2024 Presidential race, so publically naming a Cuban Yankees player in front of a huge Cuban population is a smart tactic. Yet, a considerable number of fans are dissatisfied with this scenario because it politicizes sports. Yet again, the former leader of the free world has raised eyebrows with his words.

With the tense presidential race for the upcoming 2024 elections, Donald Trump is doing everything to get the country’s approval once again. The 77-year-old recently arrived in Hialeah, hoping to gain support from the people, 60% of whom are likely leaning toward the Republican for 2024, per Jacksonville Today. But while making his case over Ron deSantis, Trump was suddenly reminded of baseball.

Praising Nestor Cortes Jr. for his throwing variations, Trump said, “A great pitcher from the New York Yankees, they call him the Hialeah kid, Nestor Cortes. Where is Nestor, he’s a great pitcher. He’s got that fastball.”

Ironically, Cortes has been dismal on the mound this season, plagued by injuries. A return is imminent in 2024 but with a terrible 2023, the Yankees Nation is already fed up with the team’s consistent troubles and no solutions.

If there is one thing the passionate Pinstriped fanbase is known for, it’s making their feelings known about their favorite team. Once again, social media was abuzz with mixed sentiments among fans as Trump’s praise sparked discussions.

New York Yankees fans are divided

The situation has polarized Yankees Nation, with some making fun while others getting furious. One Instagram user commented, “Oh no, he’s cursed forever now 💀 RIP Nestor 😢” Another user questioned his “fastball” comment by saying, “I promise fastball is the last thing he has😭” Whereas another fan on Instagram echoed many fans’ sentiments by writing, “I hate this.”

But Instagram was not the only place where fans reacted. X (formerly known as Twitter) too had fans commenting on this incident. One said this was not even the most shocking thing to have happened this week.

There was one who was just shocked at what was even happening.

Another found it rather absurd and decided to make it even more weird.

To show how this polarised the fan base, one needs to just look at this tweet. Hal Steinbrenner has already incensed fans, but apparently, Trump would be better.

And finally, a fan just called out how random this all was.

With this, the New York Yankees found themselves unfortunately caught in another heated fan argument. The offseason is surely starting off weirdly for the Bronx Bombers. One wonders what else is in store for the club this winter.
